This is the one and only Vietnamese Restaurant I ate here in Chicago since I’m out in the burbs this summer. The Pho is decent here. They went authentic with their Spring Rolls by putting real pork and not Gio like some places I been to. Their Bun Thit Tom Nuong was eh. I have really high standards for Vietnamese food, since I’m of a Vietnamese decent and been all over Vietnam. Also, I’m from Houston where there’s a big Vietnamese population out there. I also notice that Vietnamese food is cooked differently in certain part of the States, so everyone has a different opinion of how it suppose to taste like.

i like eating at viet-town’s pho xe tang. it’s got the mom ’n pop shop feel (that you’re probably familiar with if you’ve ever eaten at a vietnamese place), but it’s BIG, very casual, and accommodating for large groups. also, the food is tasty with reasonable prices.
pho xe tang on the corner of broadway & argyle so it’s easy to find. parking, on the other hand, can be a big pain if you’re coming at peak meal times. sometimes i take the red line to argyle – the stop drops you off smack in the middle of viet-town.
if you’re in the mood for a more upscale viet cuisine dining experience, just walk down the street to hai yen (one of my favs) – clean, cozy, and sophisticated. a good place to take the parents.
looks like a big omelette, but it’s not. still quite tasty. big enough for 2-3 people – almost a meal in itself.
standard fare dry noodles w/pork and fish sauce. i love these dry noodle dishes. pork a little dry, but overall, a satisfying dish.
where do they come up w/this stuff? a sweet, refreshing, and filled w/surprise goodies drink. a very fun dessert.

Right in the heart of Viet-Town, Pho Xe Tang is clean, hoppin’ place, with peeps from all over enjoying whatever Viet dishes. I always get the Pho Dac Biet, and once I got the bun xeo, ooh, and a shrimp fried rice to go, but they were good as hell.
Food = Great
Location = Alright, but parking is a bitch
Service = Descent, waiter was nice
Finish off ya meal with a bubble tea. Fo sho, I’m gonna go there again this month.

08/13/2007there’s another vietnamese place down argyle that i like – hai yen. it’s a little more upscale and pricey, but it’s good too.
