Porto’s in Glendale is a local legend, the perfect place to pick up a tasty lunch and desert, and now we have one in Burbank which, to my tastes, is every bit as good as the original store.

For those who have never been to the Porto’s in Glendale, the one in Burbank has pretty much the same menu, with a great selection of Cuban sandwiches (including an un-paralleled Media Noche and a savory Ropa Vieja Sandwich), not-Cuban sandwiches (like a great Turkey Croissant), and perfectly made Cuban appetizers (like meat pies, papas rellenas, and croquetas).

And then there’s the bakery! They have a huge selection of delectable personal-sized baked goods, ranging from Tres Leches and rum cakes, to an outstanding Mango Mouse and Cheesecakes. They also make great cakes in all sorts of styles, both Cuban and traditional.

The one considerable problem with Porto’s is that it is always very crowded. But this is to be expected considering the quality of the food and the restaurant’s fame. And the staff is very friendly and helpful. To top it all off, the prices are very reasonable.
