Primehouse was good, but not as good as our check suggested. We enjoyed the appetizers and sides more than the meat. The mac and cheese was phenomenal and the carmalized onions and mushrooms were also flavorful. The Wedge salad was not actually a wedge, but good nonetheless. For dinner, I had porterhouse, for 2, with Mary Elizabeth. We both thought that it was servicable, but we had both had better. Strapp and Lauren had salmon(she’s pregnant) and the NY strip, both of which they were politely complementary of. All around, not the kind of enthusiasm you hope for at a fancy new steak house. The best thing about Primehouse may be that it replaced Park Ave. Country Club, the cavernous sports bar that was largely devoid of personality and patronage, except on a saturday and sunday during football season.
The Primehouse decor is a nice addition to the neighborhood, with slick, modern fixtures over a cream and brown color scheme. A trip to the men’s bathroom downstairs brings you past the window of their blue-lit meat locker. Meat lockers are always impressive sights and this one is particularly cool. The chairs were amongst the most comfortable I’ve ever sat in at a restaurant; padded back, high arm rests. Almost comfortable enough to sit in on a Sunday and…watch football.
