I had never visited this bakery before, and a group of friends and I included it on a day of checking out the best of what Pittsburgh’s bake shops have to offer. Having heard lots of great things about The Priory Hotel, I had high expectations of the goodies.
They offer a wide selection of “gourmet” cupcakes, and I choose the Red Velvet and the Key Lime. Both were terribly disappointing. The Red Velvet tasted stale, and had no flavor—the cake was really dry. The Key Lime was a bit better, but the frosting was so overwhelming that I took it off. The lime filling was the best part, but there was not enough of it. So much for my high hopes!
