One of my favorite places in Seattle

Probably my favorite restaurant in Seattle (if you don’t count Brasa, which is too expensive to be a regular favorite restaurant). Anytime we’re trying to decide where to go, I suggest Queen Sheba. I just can’t get enough of it. I could probably eat here every meal of every day and still be happy.

Like other reviewers have said, your food comes in a big platter on top of a large round piece of injera (sponge-y, slightly sour, flat bread), and so all the juices from the dishes soak up nicely onto the bread. You also get your own piece of injera for picking up the food with (no forks or knives here!).

My favorite is the doro wot—spiced chicken with a hard boiled egg. We also always get the veggie combo—absolutely delicious to go with pretty much anything else you’d order. I think we’ve tried most of the meat entrees, you can’t go wrong with any of them. I also always get the honey wine; very tasty!

The only downside is, the service is pretty bad. Almost every single time I’ve gone (and I’ve gone a lot), they’ve managed to mess up the order somehow, bring us the wrong dish, forget to bring something we asked for, charged us for the wrong dish, given us the wrong bill, etc. They are also extremely, extremely, extremely slow. I don’t get angry about it (the way I do with the server from my Portage Bay Cafe review) because these guys don’t seem to have an attitude about it, they seem sorry when they mess up, and really seem like they are trying their best, they’re just…too laid-back, or something. And the last few times I’ve gone, service has been a little better, so things are looking up.

In any case, it doesn’t matter to me, the food is so delicious, I’d come in spite of the service. Just make sure you have plenty of time to wait when you come, and you’re not in a rush to catch a movie or anything. Come to enjoy a delicious, leisurely meal!

Really good ethiopian food

This place is fantastic… just make sure you go at the right time. We went and luckily got the last table open for dinner and proceeded to watch the people after us continue to wait for a table through our entire meal. The food was fantastic, we got the vegetarian appetizer rolls which were great, between 4 of us we got one meat combo and one veggie combo and it was plenty. The spongy bread is amazing. Their honey wine was delicious. The service is pretty slow so go when you have a long time to spend there. The bill was very reasonable as well.

I went here again after a 3 year break. First time I went with my coworkers my first summer in Seattle, and I was amazed with the food. This time it was just me and a friend who was visiting Seattle, and we were not too hungry, so we ordered a vegetarian combo and shared it. It was a very reasonable price. We both got a drink, she got chai and I got spicy tea. Mine was really good, hers was nice, but too sweat. The vegetatian combo was awesome! I wasn’t hungry, but still finished the whole thing. That bread, injera is sooo good! Yeah, the service is slow, but you should go expecting that and then the experience would be fine.
By the way, John, please update the name of this restaurant, as somebody entered it wrong. It’s spelled “Queen Sheeba”, with two e’s in Sheeba.

One of the better ones

I’ve eaten Ethiopian a handful of times and Queen Sheba is definitely one of the better ones. It’s got a nicely themed decor and a simple well-priced menu. The only negative was that it was a little warm inside (so try to sit near an open window or door).

Food is served in standard ethiopian style with a giant plate with the entrees layed on a giant piece of injera bread. Each person also gets a plate with their on injera.

The veggie rolls were a nice start, and both meat dishes were good. Also came with a small side of lentils, cabbage and potatoes.

Service was friendly and the food was pretty fast.

It looks like a sushi roll but with injera instead of rice and seawood. Nice healthy way to start the meal.

Overall was tasty, but the chicken (being breast) was a bit drier and tougher than I like.

Fish (tilapia i think) was really tender and tasty. The sauce-soaked injera under this was really good.
