Rude service

I came here about a month ago and there are two things that stick out in my memory: rude service and salty dishes. I think our group was unfortunate in that we were greeted (more like snubbed) by a particular waiter. This waiter had already been rude over the phone as I was making the reservation, but I figured on my way over to the restaurant that, hey, maybe they are incredibly busy and stressed out. No – completely not the case. When we arrived at the restaurant, the place was relatively empty. As we were looking over the menu and asked the waiter how big the portions were (cuz we wanted to share an appetizer or some dishes), the waiter replied in an irritated, whiny, exasperated tone: “Portions depend on how hungry you are. If you’re hungry, the dish will be small. If you’re not hungry then, you can probably share. Are you hungry or not?” Um… okay… thanks. When we asked for recommendations of dishes, he refused to make suggestions. No smiles, no friendly gestures, unacceptable service. How do they expect to keep customers with such rudeness?

The food itself was pretty good except the fact that most of it was pretty salty. We went in a group of 6 and everyone agreed on the salty part. Except for the paella with seafood (Arroz con Mariscos) – that was REALLY delicious.

And a heads up. I would not go for the crab (leg) dishes. (And my favorite food is crab). Only because when you see the dish, the crab legs look like a LOT, but when you actually dig into it, it’s not that much. And gets messy. There’s plenty of other seafood that comes in ginormous sizes besides crab.

I wish I could say I liked my experience enough to come back, but one person can truly make a difference. And thanks to that waiter, I will never return.

Dishes I tried:

This dish was yummy as described by tulips. The duck was pretty tender, but the rice was salty as were most of the dishes there.

This was the best dish. Paella with all sorts of seafood. And not salty at all!

I don’t remember the exact name of this appetizer. It was yummy, but definitely not big enough to share with 6 people (probably good for just 2).

peruvian food? heck yeah!

a friend brought me here for lunch, and i’m so glad she did because i would return in a heartbeat! rinconcito serves peruvian food w/an emphasis on seafood. (but if seafood isn’t for you, they also have chicken, lamb, beef dishes). the serving sizes are what really impressed me because they’re unbelievably HUGE. if you’ve got a big appetite, then take it on over to rinconcito.

the service was friendly (but we were also one of the only two parties there), and the ambience is casual, but still nice. a place you could take your mom/dad or date…definitely not your hole-in-the-wall kind of place.

my friend insisted on ordering this dish b/c she had gotten it last time. its fresh mussels in the shell with chopped salsa liberally scooped on top – tasted very light and refreshing. it was a perfect way to start off the meal on such a hot day. definitely a winner in my book!

i love duck! this dish comes with 2 large pieces of juicy, tender duck bathing in a large plate of cilantro flavored almost-creamy rice (sort of risotto-ish). the two combos complemented well, and the serving size was so ridiculously large i could only finish 1/3 of it. yumm…duck.
