Great sushi! Great hibachi! Friendly service.

I have been going to this place for over 3 years, and the service their is very good. The owners, Haruyoshi and Ikuko Shindo always take care of me when I’m there. Mr. Shindo is an excellent sushi chef and I would not get sushi anywhere else in town. Thai, and the other cooks are experts of their craft as well. If you’re ever in town and you like japanese food, visit Robata of Tokyo. You will not be dissapointed.

They have many dishes to choose from. A good selection of tempura, seafood, and classic japanese dishes. The sushi is top rate. The fish used is fresh and tender. Recommended fish to try
yellowtail, tuna, white tuna, toro (fatty tuna, this is the best of the bunch and Haruyoshi got me and my friend hooked on it), red snapper, and giant clam. If you don’t like raw fish then there are other types of sushi you may enjoy. There are rolls that are made with baked eel or crab. The eel there is very tasty and the dragon, vegas, and anago rolls are more than worth the try. And they have good hibachi. Filet, chicken, tuna, or sirloin with scallops, shrimp, or lobster. Filet melts right in your mouth and tasty marinades are thrown in with the sides of rice and sprouts.

The Ghetto Version of Hibachi!

Where was the graffitti, the hookers and the crack dealers? At the table next to us! The “hibachi chef” looked like he couldn’t wait to get his next fix! Depressing decor and service! The best thing….the Sekura drink…por que te cura!

THE BEST SUSHI I HAVE EVER HAD! AWESOME HIBACHI!

I have been a loyal Robata’s customer for the better part of three and a half years. I would visit this place weekly for it’s many authentic Japanese culinary treats. Unlike most Japanese restaurants which are run by either Chinese, Korean, or sometimes American (!) nationalities, this one is owned by a Japanese couple who make sure that you are getting the best possible experience of true Japanese cuisine. Guaranteed you will NEVER find better sushi than here as Mr. Shindo prepares a world class presentation. I recommend the Spicy Toro Roll.

If sushi is not your thing, do not hesitate to order from the kitchen or treat yourself to a wonderful hibachi dinner. Chef Tai is one of the most entertaining and precise chefs I have personally ever experienced. You order fillet Mignon rare, you get it rare and never cooked more. You want it well done (although I don’t know why you’d wanna char a fillet), you get it well done. And the customer service is top notch. Mr. and Mrs. Shindo are some of the finest, classiest people I have ever had the pleasure of being my host. They will always take care of their customers.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how the bad review below came to make it’s way here but pay no mind to it. It is probably someone of extreme ignorance. Robata’s is located in the heart of Allentown just two blocks from the historic PP&L building. Far from “the ghetto”. If you are in town do yourself a favor and stop by. I now live in New York but ALWAYS make sure to go to Robata’s during every visit home. In fact, on my birthday I drove from New York JUST to go there and eat.

Kudos to the Shindos for running such a wonderful and classy place.

I personally like spicy dishes and this one is incredible. Unlike most spicy sushi rolls, Mr. Shindo chops the fish and mixes it well with the spices. Toro is a fattier form of tuna and as such tastes much better in my opinion. He gave me this one to try one time and that was it. I got hooked. I am never afraid to try anything that Mr. Shindo is cooking.

Inviting and Delicious

Come here for delicious sushi and traditional Japanese food. Their variety of traditional hot and cold Japanese appetizers and entrees is something that can’t be found in any other Japanese restaurant in the area. The service is warm and welcoming with phenomenal food. A great dining experience!

I’ve tried finding soba noodles in every restaurant in the area, and this is one of the few dishes that is prepared with true soba noodles (some restaurants try to pass Italian pasta noodles or lo mein noodles off as soba). The soba is absolutely delicious, and the broth in which it is prepared complements the soba extremely well. The seafood tempura accompanies the soba and brings out a delicious flavor. If you want a true taste of Japan outside of what you may have already tried with sushi and some of the appetizers, then I highly recommend this dish.
