I went here on a co-worker recommendation for somewhere to go for AYCE steamed crabs on September 16, 2012. First impressions were OK, the place is small, but it had a seafood feeling to it. Service started off pretty bad, it took two hours to get through 3 trays of steamed crabs. Not because they were piled high with crabs, no, it was because there was only maybe 12 or 15 crabs per tray for 3 guys, then it took another 15-20 minutes to get another order. On top of that we noticed that some of the crabs smelled like ammonia, we didn’t really know what this meant, so we chalked it up to bad luck since the others tasted fine and we tossed the bad ones aside. After about 2.5 hours of on and off again eating (most was spent sitting w/o any food), we finally asked the waitress to bring us double orders, which she gladly did. A bit later we had a big pile of crabs and everything seemed to be finally going well. Then we started noticing that for every one good crab there were 2-3 rotten crabs! I’m not talking about a mild ammonia smell like the earlier ones, these were stinking, runny, brown, totally and utterly rotten crabs, they were so bad that you could smell the stench when you pulled off the claws and legs before even opening the actual crab. It was so bad that it caused all three of us to top eating and leave. Looking back I’m ashamed that I did not complain, but I was more concerned about getting to the store and getting some Pepto-Bismol in preparation for that I knew was going to be a long and unhappy night in the bathroom. The owner has no right to serve garbage like that and eventually he is going to end up killing someone if he continues to do so. Never in my life have i had such a horrible experience, the owner of this establishment should be absolutely ashamed. Rt 30 Seafood is terrible! Do not ever go here! Oh, and that ammonia smell I mentioned earlier… I come to find out that the ammonia smell is from the decomposition of the crab. I found out later on Facebook that others I know had similar experiences with rotten crabs from this place. Don’t let establishments like this one continue to get away with practices like these! Call them out, report them to the BBB and the health dept, write reviews, and tell everyone you know. Places like Rt. 30 Seafood in Thomasville, PA should be condemned and shut down.
