Overpriced... Undervalue.... Spectacular View

Well for a party of 8…. wanting a great San Diego View… and a fun time… the Pier Cafe seemed like a great choice. They have plenty of room for large parties up stairs… and it is a fun place. How can you not smile… out over the water on Gorgeous San Diego Bay… and there is all this great people watching too… you are right in Seaport Village. And like all the tourists around us… we had a hell of a good time in spite of the food.

You expect to pay a premium for location… but $4.95 for a Bud Light? and… $8.50 for a margarita that had gotten no closer to Tequila than I was to Tijuana? The food prices were more in line than the Liquor… but they should have been.

Service was good. Kid seemed nice… we kept him busy… and even though we were a party of 8… they added in only 15%… in light of the liquor prices… that surprised me. We gave him a larger tip.

Food was a disgrace. Well the French Fries were anyway. French Fries were served barely warm to cold… and soggy. I think they must have had them on some sort of steam table. Three of the four guys got them… all agreed. 4Th guy had sliced tomatoes…. said they were great.

My Entree… see review… was the “Landlubber’s Steak Wrap”… Top sirloin, bell peppers, mushrooms and onions sauteed in Jack Daniel’s pepper sauce with melted cheeses. Served in pita bread. Sounded good… three of us ordered it… waiter said it was really good. Waiter’s lie!

All of the ingredients were there… but the pita was not a pocket… (guess that’s why they called it a wrap)… it was sort of a thick tortilla… and the wrap looked like a taco. Ingredients were sparse in my mind… the entire thing was soggy on one side… I made a hell of mess eating mine… Mike used a knife and fork… he had the tomatoes too… Mike is smart.

But the soggy fries set the tone…. and to me … it was a match made in heaven. Last time I ate here… a few years ago… I had the fish and chips… and as I remember the fries were great… I know I remember the fish as good… and one of our group had that entree… and said it was “Great Fish and soggy chips”.

I wish that owner’s of really touristy restaurants like this would try to make the same impression as our beautiful city does. No Country for old Men I guess… :-)

Top sirloin, bell peppers, mushrooms and onions sauteed in Jack Daniel’s pepper sauce with melted cheeses. Served in pita bread…. (from the menu)

Well here it is they way I tell it :-)

Very little top sirloin (tasty though), very thin and very few bell peppers… thin and sparse sauteed onions… in a Jack Daniel’s pepper sauce with melted Cheese. That must have been the soggy part for the pita. The pita… tasty… in fact it was good… but it was like a taco that being soggy and floppy…. defied being picked up without all the ingredients falling out on top of the soggy fries. Honest to God… writing this is more fun than eating it was.

The French Fries… shame shame shame. Nobody from the Cook… to the waiter… to management could be paying attention to quality. Why should they… the view is fantastic… the place is packed… and they are getting $4.95 for domestic bottled beer.
