Ah, the Scenic Cafe. Our favorite. Located 8 miles north of Duluth on Scenic Hwy 61, this unassuming little restaurant serves up some of the most creative and delicious food we have been able to find. From bread to salad to soup to entree to wine to desert, we have never been disappointed in the three times we have been there. We’d go a lot more if it wasn’t 200 miles away. The service is knowledgeable and friendly and oh, let us get back to the food. On our last visit, Jim had fried grouper served on a mascarparone polenta cake with slender tender asparagus and cilantro sauce. He washed it all down with a Bell’s Hopslam and the Lake Shore Organic IPA. Unusual and bitter, just like Jim. (Attn Beer Connoisseurs: A nice selection of craft beers can be found here, for a reasonable price to boot!) Pam had Alaskan King Salmon served over garlic and cheese ravioli in a cream sauce. Rich and delectable, just like Pam. Our server recommended the Babcock Pinot Noir (as Pam is really into Pinot at the moment) to accompany the salmon. It was a good choice. For dessert, we shared a cheesecake tart with rhubarb sauce, as what is summer without a little rhubarb.
This little blog just does not do the New Scenic Cafe justice. So gas up your cars dear readers, make your way to beautiful North Shore and eat up!
