My own personal sushi kitchen
I’ve patronized Shima for several years now and honestly am not sure what I would do if they weren’t mere blocks from apartment. I’ve been there to dine alone, to celebrate birthdays with friends, to catch up with people I haven’t seen in a while each and every single time the food has been consistenly good, the service prompt and friendly, and the atmosphere casual and comfortable. The menu is filled with the usual suspects, especially for this neighborhood and the sake list is short but focused (I recommend the Harushika). This is easily my absolute favorite place for a meal in the city hands down, without contest.
Dishes Tried:
Spicy Chicken Tempura Roll
The perfect marriage.
Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll
Perfection.
Spicy Tuna Jalapeno Roll
sometimes a little too much cilatro, but usually a big fat party in my mouth. yay.
Chicken Katsu
Crispy, tender, and simple. Served with rice and a few shrubs of broccoli. yum.
Goma ae
sometimes the spinach is a bit tough, but usually this is a great way to start off a meal. there’s basically no way to go wrong with leafy greens in a sesame sauce.
GYOZA
The wrapper is thin, the pork inside is just lovely. Pan fried to perfection.
