there are much better steakhouses in houston, but smith and wolly’s is open late (until 2 or 3 am on weekends). so after a night of partying, S&W is a great alternative to taqueria, mai’s, bibas, or house of pies. the service at this hour is SLOW. our food is usually overcooked (and might i add an 8 oz filet is still over $30), but we are usually to hungry or lazy to deal with sending it back. the scene can be a little trashy with men in their 50-60’s with 20 year old hoochies on their arm.

i’m sure quality control and is much better during normal hours. i’ve been the the S&W in manhattan many times and never had a bad meal. the blackened ribeye is quite terrific. i just prefer the 2 steakhouses downtown for more creative menu items, ambiance, and convenience.

Great steak and couldn’t have experienced it at a better place than Texas. I’ve heard about this steakhouse for a while and it has gained popular recognition from its start in New York so I went in with super high expectations. The steak was delicious but between the setting and the food I’ve had much better.
