This restaurant with overpriced food is run by clowns.
The food is overrated as h*ll. The owner is a slob, and very shady. He wears a huge untucked shirt, or even less professional attire – usually raggedy, baggy clothes, in plain sight of customers, and also does the nasty Skoal habit – with precious spitcup in hand – also in sight of patrons! How appetizing is that?!
In my perception, and experience as a (one-time) customer and friend/relative of those exploited by him, he is a crook. He classifies his servers as “independent contractors”, even though they sign no paperwork agreeing to such a designation and are hired on as waiters and waitresses in direct employment by Sophabella’s (which operates under a business name with initials – again shady). Concomitantly, he gives severed employees paychecks which have no paystubs! These are accounting tricks ostensibly intended to avoid/decrease taxes. I had to notify the IRS and State of Oklahoma of my income from Sophabella’s and explain why my actual total income reported for the year was higher than the gross income printed in my W-2 totals because the owner never sent a W-2 form to me! Shady as h*ll – that’s Gotahella’s for you!
The fat-slob owner also allows servers to work without liquor licenses! I reported this to ABLE, the liquor law enforcement agency for central Oklahoma, but do not know if they ever made a raid. They could have made a big haul if they had!
A friend, and a cousin, who had the misfortune of working at this joke of a restaurant told me all about these symptoms of this crooked establishment. They were both glad to be out of there!
The fool who owns this place doesn’t even know how to correctly pronounce his own last name, and whoever wrote some of the training menu pages was obviously illiterate. For instance, the seafood appetizer section featured “muscles” instead of “mussels”. This was just one of several embarrassing typos. I guess they weren’t smart enough to have someone proofread, but what would one expect from a redneck restaurant that tries to push itself as being as good as a place in a real city (Chicago) ?!
Bill Brazil has undoubtedly gone through hundreds – possibly THOUSANDS – of servers since opening this dump. He plays favourites like crazy, and this is surely one reason his turnover is insanely high! A gay manager hit on my cousin twice in one night (!) and when my cousin told Brazil about it, Brazil said he would talk to him, but he didn’t even terminate him, as he should have. My cousin wasn’t the only person the gay manager was after and flagrantly propositioned, but Brazil retained the manager’s employment. I wish that sexual harassment charges had been filed, but it was a missed opportunity…
Brazil is a paranoid b*stard too! He has cameras and recorders EVERYwhere, and he spends much of his time in his cluttered, disheveled office (an office not fit for a sewer rat – nice and filthy, just feet from the kitchen where food is prepared for entry into people’s mouths and passage through their digestive systems) watching video and listening to audio of his employees. Little wonder, since his Gotahella’s location in Yukon was closed due to embezzlement. Since Brazil was too stupid to prevent that, he overreacted by turning totalitarian at his OKC location.
Whatever you do, DO NOT eat at Sophabella’s! DO NOT help this business survive; the owner does not deserve any profits or patronage whatsoever. Hopefully, the illegalities rife at this dive will get it closed, joining the fate of the Yuck-on location. It is miraculous, in one sense, that this piece of garbage is still open, but in another sense it’s not surprising, since it surely has diehard customers who have frequented it for years, as well as first-timers and out-of-towners who are completely ignorant of what Sophabella’s is all about behind the scenes…For the sake of integrity however, places like this should be put out of business – ASAP.
