I’ve just returned from a special lunch date with my son to celebrate his 18th birthday, and Sticky Rice made it supremely wonderful. Zach had Pad Thai, safe and slightly sweet, but with a nice collection of vegetables and seasonings.
I chose Jungle Curry Mixed Vegetable’s w/Chicken and Cashews. The dish was sublime. Creamy coconut curry sauce slicked over perfectly cooked vegetables and tender chicken, pooling around a mound of white rice, was pitch perfect. Spicily exciting notes infused throughout the dish are balanced throughout the smooth, creamy sauce, slowly absorbing into the white rice, resulting in a perfect harmony of flavor. This is so far superior to any other offering available in other area asian restaurants that you must, must try it. The dish is a revelation.
See Jungle Curry detailed notes above. We also had Shrimp Spring Rolls, large, flavorful with an exquisite rice wine peanut sauce that alone would make the reputation of the chef. If it were bottled and for sale, I would corner the market on that dipping sauce by myself! The Spring Rolls were also without flaw. Normally, I find an overabundance of cilantro lends a grassy note to authentic spring rolls that can be disconcerting to my palate but these were a perfect balance. Dipped in the peanut sauce, they were sublime.
Our first appetizer was lemon grass soup (pricey at 6.95 a bowl) that was great but chokingly spicy at first. Knowling better, next time I will wait til it cools more and take a more exploratory first sip and revel in the complexity and beauty of this broth.
The service is fast, the portions extraordinarily large (easily two meals per entree) and the prices fair and reasonable for great quality. We spent $38.00 for two bowls of soup, two spring rolls, two huge appetizers and Cokes. With tip the whole special meal was $46.00. Every penny was well spent and the meal will be long remembered. Invite someone you love for something special at Sticky Rice.
