I will admit that I have held off on this review for a few reasons. First, I know a certain someone who works here (I am reviewing primarily desserts for that reason…), but that won’t get in the way of me giving my opinions about the food. Second, it has been give-or-take a year since I have been there, so I am going from strict memory.
Overall, the atmosphere of the Inn is very nice and comfortable. I have been here a few times for dinner since the grand re-opening under a new owner in 2005 and had pleasant experiences on all occasions.
There is nothing bad that I can say about the food. I wish they had more vegetarian options, but then again I wish every restaurant had more vegetarian options (I can only eat pasta primavera so many times, you know.) I believe the menu changes seasonally, which is both good and bad: good, because the ingredients are often fresh and, well, seasonal; bad, because if there is something really good on the menu in the Fall, it could be gone for the Winter.
As far as the prices go, they are not cheap and not extremely expensive. There are two menus to make selections from when ordering:
the tavern/lunch and dinner menus. The tavern/lunch menu is obviously suited for lunch and the bar-area, and the prices are cheaper than those on the dinner menu. Prices for a main course on the dinner menu range from $20-30, and there seem to be a lot of fish entrées to choose from.
There is nothing bad to say about tomato, mozzarella, and basil, topped with balsamic glaze. It is a classic set of ingredients that can be used on a lot of things – pizza, salad, pasta, etc. This was a simple and tasty appetizer, especially good to enjoy during the summertime..
I didn’t care for this dessert that much. The apples tasted nothing like apples.
Very creamy and nicely spiced. I am going to go out on an obvious limb and say that it is a “fall exclusive” dessert, but I certainly wouldn’t object to enjoying pumpkin cheesecake year-round.
A dense cake that is extremely chocolatey and fudge-like. I like chocolate, but this cake is too bitter and rich for my taste.
