Wow. Sushi Zo lived up to my hyped expectations. A sushi purist’s dream. We did omakase, and it just blew me away. The rice was perfect—perfectly cooked and seasoned, held together just right, and at optimal just-warm temperature, unlike at Echigo where the rice is hot like it’s cooking the fish.
I love being served fish that I’m not really familiar with. I loved all the variety. The skipjack was a standout. Everything was so fresh, beautiful and made and served with care. They also really care that you eat it as it should be eaten. We had 23 courses/pieces including the oyster and abalone, and the crab hand roll. That crab hand roll was also a standout, beautiful crab, just the correct small amount of mayo, a small sprinkling of seasalt, rolled immediately before serving so that the nori is still crisp all over. Then we finished it off with the delicious yuzu juice.
Four of us shared a large bottle of sake. It came out to about $85-90 per person before tax/tip. A good price for that level of sushi.
