Syros Taverna
Syros Taverna which opened early in July at 51 East Palisade Ave in Englewood, NJ (201)731-3556) has some of the best grilled fish that we’ve ever tasted. A party of six visited the restaurant a few days after they opened, and we were surprised at the level of service they had already achieved. It was packed and we wer shown to an outdoor table where we sat to dine al fresco. The grilled Branzini was excellent and very fresh. So was the stripe bass. The Octopus and the shrimp saganaki in a sauce with feta were delicious. The taramoslata and tzatziki we ordered for appetizers were the best we’ve had in a while.
Serving Greek dishes but specializing in seafood, Syros Taverna is pleasantly decorated and open seven days a week. Currently on the BYOB plan, it will feature a complete list of drinks in a couple of months.
Dishes Tried:
Branzini, 2 lbs
The Branzini, a two pound monster could feed two guests. It was grilled on what Greek establishments call schara which gives it a special flavor and keeps it tender and sweet.
