Taiko is a good Japanese place to eat at in Irvine. They do a great job of providing a Japanese-like atmosphere. The portions are very generous, and it tastes pretty good. The menu items are dominated by different combination choices of common japanese foods. They seem to pride themselves on their sesame chicken, which is pretty good I guess. The prices are alright for the portion, though I guess some may consider it high. One downside is that the line is usually long, though most good restaurants have long lines, so that isn’t much of a gripe. The sushi seems to be pretty standard fare.

whenever i drive by taiko, it more often that not has throngs of people waiting outside to be seated. as one of the few japanese restaurants that i know of in irvine, i guess that’s why this place is so popular. it’s fairly large and can accommodate +10 parties and is fitting for families w/young children or large groups of friends. as for the food, i can’t say i’ll be craving taiko anytime soon, but it offers ginormous servings (on equally large plates) and interesting combo choices.
