Taisho III is an “all you can eat” sushi restaurant with a twist—the sushi is made to order. You check off the items you want from the cards provided on the tables, and the waiters take your cards to the sushi chefs, who then prepare your order. You can keep ordering until you are full. However, there is a catch—if you leave any food behind you will incur additional charges.
While this is a great concept, and I never had to wait long for my order(s), I would definitely say the food was not of the highest quality.
The shrimp tempura was made with very small shrimp, and had very little flavor (even with the dipping sauce). The other tempura selections—mushrooms, green beans, etc., also lacked in flavor.
The sushi came on thick mounds of rice, and with the “eat everything on your plate or be charged” policy, you were forced to eat every grain of it, which of course, limited the amount of items you were going to be eating. Since I prefer the rolls, I decided to save room for them.
Both the sushi rolls and hand rolls also contained more rice than usual, but at least they were tasty (especially the beef and chicken hand rolls), and were my favorite selections on the menu (or cards).
Since I really enjoy tempura and sushi rolls, I think in the future I will pay the extra and stick with the more traditional places.

Honestly
10/20/2009I think that this restaurant used to be on Federal Hwy just south of S.E. 17th Street. The concept of charging for un eaten rice balls was the same.
I often wondered, given a choice between eating tuna sashimi or eating rice balls, why anyone would choose to eat the rice. There are too many other reputable restaurantuers to support to play these games.
