I don’t drink so I can’t speak to the bar scene except that the entire place is packed, LOUD, uber trendy and filled with business people, tourists and locals. The dinner, however, I can comment on. To start we had the crabcakes (they were ok, spicier than you would imagine) and shrimp dumplings (pretty good!). Entrees were the rare yellowfin tuna (heavenly!!!) and the crispy red snapper filet (deeelicious!!). Desserts were the sugar doughnuts (zeppoli-esque, good) and chocolate wontons (fabulous!!). Don’t do sushi however, we ordered a roll and it was nothing special. Overall, I’d give my meal a 7/10 since the food though maybe not the best was by no means bad. Other notables – service, attentive, food came right away, glasses always filled. Decor – huge buddha and fancy zenlike interior was nice. I got lucky and sat next to the buddha and fed the fish. Don’t recommend it unless you wanna get splashed.

Make sure you have a reservation or you’ll be waiting a long time. Food was decent but not spectacular for the price you pay.

Great decor, STRONG drinks and very stylish crowd. Food is good but nothing to write home about…wouldn’t really recommend the restaurant for a dining experience…only as a meeting point for drinks and people watching.

tao simply sucks. if you want to preserve your ear drums, do not go here. if you want to actually eat, do not go here. if you want to score a one-night stand, go here.

I think Tao must be advertizing in every tourist magazine in London. Everyone who visits asks to go to Tao. Its pretty good (the buddah chicken is excellent). This restaurant is enormous but i found the service was top notch. Made famous but movies such as Hitch (the speed dating scene) and of course Sex and the City this is a bit of a tourist trap (oh and there are some ‘pros’ working the bar area). All in all though i have to say that i have been 5 times or so and loved the overall impression it left me. My brother fell in love with Sushi at this restaurant.

I’ve taken so many clients and out of town guests here, I actually absolutely abhor this place. Please do not go near the pad thai with a ten foot pole. For some reason all the maki tastes funky to me, it must be a special ingredient that one either likes or doesn’t. I don’t especially.

It’s cute for drinks with the little buddha looking down at you in the cool loft warehouse space, and you have to top off the meal with the giant fortune cookie, if only to receive one of their funky fortunes – and they’re always good.

I was here for my birthday last year and Jon Bon Jovi was at one table and some hottie top NFL draft pick was at another. Of course, all the ladies thought he was looking at them, although he was clearly looking at me. ;)

Recommendation: The seaweed sampler is pretty tasty.

Food Quality: Food was delicious but nothing landmark to justify the high prices. Portions weren’t bad considering the upscale nature of the establishment.

Food Presentation: Presentation was moderately pleasing. Nothing to call home about.

Service: Service was rapid and accompanying. However, I found the waiter to be a bit arrogant at times.

Atmosphere: Super-Trendy New York Hot Spot. This is where New York’s social upper-crust go to eat. Definitely a people watching place. I hear it’s common to find celebrities cruising around the bar area.

Overall Impression: Very cool place to go with friends, however the prices weren’t justified given the quality and presentation of the food. I imagine this place would be more fun if one went simply for the bar experience.

Visited: 1 time

Price: 50-60

Very trendy. Each table has a lazy-suzy which is great for sharing the wide array of appetizers Tao offers. The Petit Filet Mignon which the wasabi crust was tasty, but only after dipping each piece in soy sauce. A trip to tao is not complete without ordering the dessert fortune cookie. The humongous (bigger than your head) fortune cookie that can satisfy 6-8 comes complete with raunchy fortunes. Overall a fun time.
