Great tea and healthy food

I’m always a bit wary when I go to a vegetarian restaurant because fake meat is never that good. My new philosophy of not ordering any fake meat and just getting pure veggie dishes seems to be a good approach. Both dishes were very good and as long as I get something that has some starch or substance then I don’t think feel like I’m missing out on too much.

The food was good and I was able to get brown rice with it which made it feel even healthier. The teas were quite good too. We got 2 teapots for 2 people which was probably a bit overkill, but it was nice tasting different teas.

Teapot is a great quiet place to sit, talk and drink tea and the vegetarian food is a nice break from the daily meat routine.

Dishes I tried:

Too much spinach for me, but the mushrooms were good. Overall, the dish was a bit bland though.

There were plenty of veggies in this tasty curry. Just keep getting more rice to use up the surplus of curry. It’s good.

The noticeable but not overwhelming mango flavor made this my favorite. I think I drank 4 pots of it.

Good, but a not enough taste for me.

Great tea, tasty food, meat-free

Following Justin’s philosophy of not ordering any “meat” dishes at vegetarian restaurants worked well for us. The service was a bit inattentive at times, especially as we kept asking for hot water refills for our cool little teapots.

It’s really a nice and relaxing experience to sit there after your meal and try and rank different teas.

Plenty of strong flavor, but I’m not a fan of mango in my tea.

The oyster mushrooms are good – supposedly they’re delivered by the “Mushroom Lady” in Vancouver. Unfortunately the spinach in this dish wasn’t as good – I guess the “Spinach Lady” had a day off.

I liked this tea the best – light flavor but still aromatic.

Great curry – we didn’t even miss the meat.

It's not just Zen; it's kosher

The Teapot is a great vegan restaurant and a result it works well for us veggies and for folks who eat kosher. I’ve taken lots of non-vegitarian friends and family there and everyone has been blown away by how good the food is.

If you are in the mood for chicken — even if you don’t eat meat — these will hit the spot. They come with a wonderful dipping sauce and often this and dessert is all I have.

This stuff is so good they often run out of it early so if you want some, order it when your order you entree. With mango and blueberry garnish this dessert is outstanding.

great zen-y find on the east side

This little place is in the same plaza as the Malay Satay Hut in Redmond. This is a creative asian vegan/vegetarian restaurant with an almost zen-y ambience. They have some really interesting items such as compressed bean curd that tastes like meat. I consider their items more fusion-style. They do have a chinese-only menu (with more authentic dishes) I think, but I much prefer their novelty items.

I would give this place a 5 except for one little reason. The first time I went there the lady recommended me this “flower blooming” jasmine tea that’s supposed to be really good. Being my gullible self I went ahead and ordered it. It was an interesting tea… the tea leaves were basically a little ball that would open up like a flower blooming as it sat in hot water. “oooh, how interesting!” we thought. When the bill came I realized why she recommended it – that “special effect” cost me 5 bucks. :) She definitely could have warned me when she made the recommendation!

“A delicious assortment of finger foods and an eye catching way presentation. You will find spring rolls, fried wontons, tofu fritters, tofu rolls, and satay in this conversation piece”.. part of the money goes to the novelty factor

Good stuff

This place really does vegetarian right. I’ll agree with john’s review about slightly inattentive service, but I really enjoyed the food. The lunch special comes with a bowl of nice savory soup, and a tasty eggroll on the side of the entree.

Dishes I tried:

No. 9: Mongolian Tofu

Just-crispy tofu and big pieces of green onion layered over tiny crispy noodles with a spicy-sweet sauce (lots of dried peppers in the sauce). This went great with the brown rice (chose white or brown).

The Most Expensive Bad Food We Ever Ate!

My fiancée and I went to the Teapot Restaurant in the Redmond/Bellevue area on December 15, 2007. This is the restaurant where we lost our engagement ring. The staff and the owner did not show any signs of sympathy and the owner shrugged off this traumatic incident by stating “this is not your home; you should not put your things anywhere you like.” We called the police and the officer came and reported the incident. But since there was no evidence of a crime having been committed, there is nothing the officer could do. Other than the restaurant’s reluctance to offer any kind of assistance to us, there are also other areas the restaurant should consider for improvement:

The restaurant’s atmosphere was nice. It’s very quiet and not a lot of customers, just the two of us and two other set of couples in the restaurant. It was so quiet that we could hear the wait staff talking amongst themselves in Chinese to each other, as clearly as if they were yelling.

The service could have been better. We came in, they acknowledged us, seated us; all this without any smile. They took our order. Another older lady delivered the food to us, but her facial expression seemed angry and annoyed. While we were eating, we noticed that the wait staff were staring at us and whispering. My fiancée and I thought this was very weird.

The food needs major improvement. All the dishes we ordered tasted either like a bowl of soy sauce or a bowl of salt. The Mongolian beef and broccoli has a fibrous texture not unlike carrots, and some tasted like rubber. The sauces tasted the same in all dishes… soy sauce! The color of the hot and sour soup was a dark black color and the taste… you guessed it: like soy sauce! The tofu and mushroom dish was a bowl of thick gelatinous gravy that tasted like a bowl of salt! Teapot is overpriced for this kind of food and service. For two people, our bill came out to be almost $50.00, which included a cup of hot and sour soup, the tofu and mushroom appetizer, the Mongolian beef entrée, and a bowl of shanghai noodles. I can drink soy sauce and eat salt at home for less than $1.00, but I don’t think I will.

Needless to say, this is the most expensive soy sauce and salt my fiancée and I ever ate. It cost us our engagement ring. We will never go back again!

Wow! Who knew that Vegan fare was so darn good! If one still loves the texture of meats with delicate sauces, this is a beautiful place… They have a wonderful selection of teas, and specialty flavored rices.
