for cheap tex-mex, this is the best in houston. the beef fajitas and carne asadas are tender and oh-so-tasty. try the carnes asada with grilled onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and monterrey jack cheese on top (el pueblo) or order the beef fajita with poblano, cilantro, mushroom, and white wine cream sauce (fajita poblana). both dishes are enough for two. and try corn tortillas even if you usually like flour. they are hot, fresh, and fragrant of sweet corn. snapper mostarda also very good.
tex-mex combo plates are popular, just not my kind of thing. didn’t care for the enchiladas verdes which has diced fajita chicken them. chicken flautas get good reviews.
btw, breakfast here rocks. served on weekdays until 11, weekends until 1. get 3 eggs (any style), beef fajita, tamale, refried beans, roasted potatoes, and tortillas for $5.99. veggie omelet is also good. also, dollar margaritas mon-wed, 5-7 pm. NO JOKE.
