I concur with the previous review. The decor for some reason is really bothersome to me, and I consider myself pretty ‘anti-establishment’. The food is mediocre, and I’ve heard from numerous former employees how filthy the kitchen is. I can’t comment on that from first hand experience, but it wouldn’t really surprise me. The whole experience feels dirty and greasy to me. I still can’t figure out why there is sometimes such a long line out the door for brunch – tourists maybe?

Eating at Friendly Toast is a bit like eating in a Tim Burton film. There are, to say the least, some interesting decorations in this [anti]establishment. As for the food, well, you probably won’t leave here hungry. Portions are immense and tasty. Open very late also. Great greasy grinds.

I will never eat here again! The service was very slow but I attributed that to the popularity of the place and thought that the busyness of the place meant that the food was really good. WRONG! The food was mediocre but the worst part was that the waitress was so stressed that she add my bill incorrectly and then couldn’t remember which credit card was mine. Long story short, my credit card was charged twice (both times for incorrect amounts) causing my bank account to overdraw and subjecting me to fees, and 4 days after eating there I am still battling with them to remove the charges from my credit card! Eating at the Friendly Toast has left a very bad taste in my mouth!

Not your average breakfast joint. This is the place to go when your craving just about anything. They have the craziest breakfast, lunch, and dinner creations – all amazing! They make the best homemade bread in portsmouth. Offer vegetarian and vegan options! My fav’s are falafel, Kate’s tofu scramble, and the cinnamon bread french toast! This place is a must!

I am originally from New England but have lived in other states for years now. One of the things I look forward to the most during my annual trip Home is breakfast at the Friendly Toast. The food’s so good that I’ve dreamed about it before! I could eat a Guy Scramble every day for the rest of my life. The decor is charming in a wonderfully obnoxious way and never gets boring. As for the happy, hippie staff: power to the people!

Sure, the music is loud, the decor is funky, and the waiters are pierced and tattooed. The food is amazing. I have been eating here regularly for ages and I’ve never had a bad meal.

Okay, their prices aren’t that great, but they do serve you a lot of food so you will have it again later on….. so I can afford to go there about once a month. Their Cheese Fries and Orleans Fries are fantastic, and the Leah’s Liquid (Luxurious, of course) is a must-have!
