4.0The Lineup is one of my favourite haunts in the exchange. It’s not fine dining by any means, but it is fun. The triangular patio pointing to the Old Market Square makes for a great atmosphere in the summer.
Service can be hit-and-miss, and is done at the counter. There are a few local brews on tap, but only Fort Garry, no Half-pints.
Salads are ok, but I highly recommend the beer-battered chicken fingers, which are a contender for best in the city. Their personal deep-dish pizzas are tasty and often overlooked.
I’ve never had the opportunity to take advantage of the dinner and a movie deal, but from my friends who have, they speak highly of it.
Beer-battered and a competitor for some the best fingers in the city. Typically comes with fries and in a neat paper takeout cone.
Very tasty, though as its deep-dish, I find the dough is slightly undercooked.

4.0This is a restaurant that will be difficult to review because I love the atmosphere, patio and presentation of the food more than the food itself.
Tucked in the heart of the Exchange District, the Line Up has their great ‘Noodles by the Box’. They also have paper wrapped fish, and other items.
I love the patio area. It is great for a few friends to hang out and take in the Exchange area. I love eating noodles out of a box, or digging in for food in paper wrapping. Unfortunately the quality isn’t that fantastic.
On my first visit, I had one of their noodles by the box and found it good. Unfortunately it was nothing special but the neatness of eating out of the box with chopsticks overcame that.
I visited a second time mainly because I thought my mother would like the place and it was Mother’s day. They were partnered up with the IMAX theatre for a ‘Dinner and a Movie’ promotion and since we were going to the IMAX anyway, this tied in perfectly. We both had noodles by the box. I think my mother liked it, but didn’t rave about the food either.
On my third visit I decided to try a different item on the menu. I ordered the four piece chicken fingers (since I really dislike fries). What a mistake. I ate these tiny sticks in a minute and was still starving. I had to order their noodles by the box on top of my initial chicken fingers. THAT pisses me off.
Overall I think that the Lineup is a great little place to go to hang out with friends outside on a nice summer day… a great date place as well because the food isn’t heavy at all. Just don’t even bother with the chicken fingers.
The fingers were alright… how do you screw those up? The portion was laughably small. I had to order an entire extra dinner on top of this.
Really great presentation in this box (it’s new to me anyhow). It was quite spicy I thought but didn’t really blow me away. The Noodles By The Box is definitely what you should get if you are at the Line Up.
