extra sweet dim sum

Tin’s is a sweet dim sum place. And by sweet, I mean that their food is actually sweeter than usual dim sum. I am guessing this is done to cater more to the non-Asian customers since I noticed that many customers were in fact, not Chinese.

The restaurant itself is very nice and well decorated. It has paintings, structures, and has a nice atmosphere to it. The service was alright in my opinion. When we asked for something, they generally responded fairly quickly. The dim sum here was all solid. I have had better egg custard tarts, and barbequed pork buns, but that shouldn’t detract that much from this place. It is all delicious, and some of it has a different taste than usual dim sum, which is somewhat refreshing. If you like sweeter dim sum, then this is a good place to check out.

Dishes I tried:

Baked Egg Custards

Comes with four petite custards. It was good and fairly addicting, but there was way too much tart compared to custard. Plus, the tart was super buttery.

They were also kinda small compared to others I have had.

It was crispy and very good. It came with a sweet sauce (oyster? can’t remember) that complemented it very well.

It didn’t come with a lot since it was dim sum portions. Crispy, saucy, and still worth getting though.

Poor Value and Service on Friday August 15, 2008

Ordered two beers overall and the second beer was never served.
Ordered Sesame beef and the order may have had an once of total beef in it. I cut it up to verify my initial observation. The batter made of the vast majority of the volume and weight. The sauce that dressed the deep fried batter pieces could have been ketchup with red pepper sauce. I also had Won Ton soup and had no problems with it. There were approximately ten tables being waited on and the service was slow. At the end I brought my bill to the counter rather then wait around any longer

Good Dim Sum

I'm laughing at some of the negative reviews here. I'm wondering about some of the places where these people dine. Never heard of gratuity included? Bland? Do you eat at Manchu Wok where the food is heavily salted and most wouldn't consider it to ...

Tin's Tea House

This is NOT the place to go if you are a lesbian couple dressed in casual clothing and in need of a restful atmosphere with attentive staff. The waiter was rude, argumentative and dismissive. Upon entering we were rushed out of the main dining roo...

So-So Restaurant

It is in a location that kind of hard to see from the road, its tucked away a little bit. I have eaten here a few times, and they have the best dim sum in the Walnut Creek, Alamo, Danville area. The crowds that come to eat are families and some yo...
