Umi Sake House is a unique Japanese cuisine restaurant in the Belltown area of Seattle featuring the highest quality seafood available in the Northwest, a large izakaya-style tapas menu, and boasting a sake list of over 60 imported Japanese bottles. The interior is multi-faceted, with a black slate tiled traditional dining room, a gorgeous 14 person capacity wooden sushi bar, a semi private "tatami" room which holds 12 people, a larger 25 person private dining room, an enclosed "back patio" casual dining room complete with tropical garden, a black concrete liquor bar with custom sake cocktails and fusion traditional cocktails, and a "front porch" casual dining area with a daily extended happy hour from 4-8pm. The variety of atmospheres allows for a different experience with every visit, and the vastness and quality of the menu does the same. For the budding sake enthusiast or the seasoned veteran, the sake menu at Umi is bottle for bottle the best found anywhere outside of Japan!

Good Service, Great Food!

First time to this establishment and while it was quite busy on this Saturday before Halloween, even with walk-in seating for five we got prompt seating up front. This afforded us a fantastic view of the slide show of eccentrics marching past the window. We ordered a sampling of things including the Bluefin Toro, a sashimi sampler and a few of the house made rolls (Yellow Fever, and Downtown roll I believe) with some Hamachi Kana and gyoza, with the cold sake the bill came to about 107, without the tip. The quality and décor was good, I was impressed. I’ll be going back whenever I’m in that area.

I’d tried Umi’s sushi once at the annual Sushi & Sake festival last year. I remember them being one of the top restaurants there – but for some reason never actually made it down to their restaurant. Mistake!! The restaurant was just as impressive, and to think I’ve been missing out all this time.

Umi is a hip sushi join in the heart of Belltown. Lots of people in their 20s and 30s there. The interior is beautifully decorated, and they have quite a bit of space and plenty of tables. Business seemed to be going quite well for them. The fish is top notch and extremely fresh. They offer a wide variety of sushi rolls which were all delicious. This is more of a fusion Japanese restaurant which I am normally suspicious of, but Umi proved to me that it can be done properly. They offer some funky rolls like ones with fresh fruit in them, and they were surprisingly good.

Definetly put this on your to-try list if you love sushi.

Great place for sushi and happy hour

This is one of my favorite places for sushi. They have a huge selection of sushi, rolls, hot food, etc., and all the ones I’ve tried have been very good. They also have a good dessert selection (green tea ice cream, mochi ice cream, tempura ice cream among others). Their happy hour is really good, with great deals on sushi and appetizers.

this is my favorite! it has strawberry and salmon in the roll, and then it’s topped with tuna and mango slices and blueberry sauce… so it might sound kind of weird, but the combination works!

This place has a great happy hour menu. You can get rolls for only $3.00. The decor is nice and the service was prompt.
