The place reminded me of a pricier version of Tin Star. I tried some of the guacamole with chips. The chips were in thick strips which made them extra crispy, but the dip was just average in my opinion. I prefer a chunkier version.

For drinks, they offer various flavored waters (mango, hibiscus, tamarindo, prickly pear). I tried the mango which was refreshing and would hit the spot on a nice hot summer day.

Despite being told the tostata salad wasn’t the most popular salad among the two I was deciding between (other being 7 layer salad), I got it anyway thinking I would like the tropical fruit and spicy habanero dressing. I did not like it at all. The dressing wasn’t spicy, and I just felt like the salad was pretty bland despite having sufficient amount of dressing. All I could really taste was the fruit (papaya, grapefruit, and the one or two mango slivers). I did like the thin slices of heart of palm and the toasted nuts (like pine nuts, but I’m no expert) which add a nice crunch to the salad. All this sat on a mound of lettuce that was just too much. The salad also had this fried strip of tortilla that had just the right amount of salt and spice and crispness.

My friend ordered the other “popular” salad, 7 layer, and said she liked hers, so it was just a poor choice on my part. And the others orderd tacos, which in hindsight I should have gotten considering the name of the place is “urban taco.” They said they were quite tasty, but the guys felt the portion was small but that is compared to american size serving portions.

For dessert, the group ordered some chocolate covered churros with cinnamon ice cream. I am just not a big overall fan of churro, but my friends said it was more like the real thing.

You order at the counter and the people deliver the food to your table. The place is causal and perfect for a group gathering since it wasn’t too busy but maybe that was just sunday night. I’d be willing to go back and try the tacos before eliminating this place off my list.

Awesome food, nice vibe

My husband took me here the other night after having gone with a friend and loving it. It’s a really cool, modern place in Mockingbird Station; pretty small and bistro-like … actually reminded me of an Americanized version of the taco places in Mexico City.

The service was a wee bit slow, and they didn’t tell us that certain taco fillings (ahi and snapper among them) are $1 extra. But we felt the price was still reasonable.

Great for a couple, a group of friends, girl’s night out … whatever. Really cool, clean atmospheres, bathrooms were clean, and it was really laid back and relaxing. Would definitely eat here again.

We started with drinks (happy hour ends at 7pm). I got a margarita, which had a really nice flavor. We ordered the chips and 3 salsas off the app menu. Unfortunately, they didn’t bring it out until after we got our dinner; other than that oversight, we really enjoyed them – the salsas were a really nice variety of colors, ingredients and heat. We got a salsa verde, avacado lime crema and the peanut habenero salsa, which isn’t all that hot until after you’re done eating it. Even then, the heat is pretty bearable; nice peanuty flavor, too.

For our entrees, we each ordered the 3 taco platter with 2 sides. I got the ahi tuna, red snapper and chicken al carbon; for sides: the white beans (which were amazing) and the corn lime crema (the roasted corn is still firm and so fresh, and even better with a squeeze of lime). The ahi was cooked just right, the snapper was tender and the chicken really flavorful. The presentation was nice but simple. The size of the tacos is smaller than what we might be used to, but again it’s more traditional; and it’s surprising how full you get.

We didn’t order dessert, but would have if we weren’t so full from our entrees!
