Looking for a vegetarian place since meat just makes you sick? Try out Veggie Grill. Although I wouldn’t answer that question as “yes”, i ended finding out about this place from a friend. The restaurant format is order and take a seat and put your number up.

I didn’t get to quite taste their full menu (had wisdom teeth taken out the day before), but the chili that I got was pretty good. They have flavored sandwiches made of wheat, soy, and other non-meat ingredients in lieu of the normal beef and chicken. I definitely want to go back and try those sometime. Seems like a great place to go in between classes if you go to UCI.

This is a really good vegitarian place to grub! I recommend the chilli yam fries its so great!

I thought it would be nice to try some healthier food after the high food consumption that occurs during the holidays. Veggie Grill attempts to provide a vegetarian version of sandwiches and meats, and it does a good job of doing so. I decided to order the Island Getaway, which has something called tempeh. Tempeh is a “tender yet crunchy blend of organic soybeans and rice culture” that I got lightly fried in my sandwich. The sandwich turned out to be quite tasty. Their description was accurate, since the burger was somewhat crispy and pretty flavorful.

I also tried some of the other “meats”, and I have to say, that they taste pretty close to the real thing. Their sweet potato fries, which you can add to your meal, were also quite awesome. They pack a lot of flavor and were very crispy. It was a welcome change to the normal fries, though the fries can get tiresome after eating a lot of them.

The Veggie Grill is a great place to check out if you are vegetarian, feel like eating something that won’t utterly destroy your heart, or feel like eating light.
