I used to live in Coal Creek Canyon years ago and the Wondervu was the place to go! I went back recently for a visit and stopped in for lunch. It did not disappoint! I got a chile relleno, enchilada, chips and salsa, and a side of their wonderful freshly made quac. I also had a latte while I was waiting. It was everything I remembered and then some. I had read some bad reviews before going back and was prepared for a let down. Adaleine and Sammy still serve up the best Mexican food around! Their prices have gone up quite a bit, but in this economy, what hasn’t? I’ve eaten Mexican all over the country, and still love the Wondervu!! It’s homey, friendly, and everything you could want in good Mexican food! Not sure about the bad reviews, perhaps just bad timing on their part…
Excellent! Best Chile Relleno I’ve had, anywhere! And I’ve tried them all over the country.

This is awful Mexican food. First of all, what Mexican restaurant charges for chips and salsa? And uses Velveeta instead of cheddar? I have lived close to this place for 12 years. The first time we went in, we mentioned we were locals, and the owner stated that she did not rely on locals for business. Well. That’s because the food is disgusting, and we have all figured it out. She relies on unsuspecting travelers to drive by. Once, I was in a pinch, and needed some queso for a party. I thought I’d give the Wondervu another try, so I went over and asked for two pints of queso. I was told, it would be ready in about a half hour. Great. I went back to pick it up…and was charged $32!!!! Not kidding. It came with a bag of stale chips, and was burned, to boot. Gross. I had ordered it, and needed it, so I paid. I didn’t know it was burnt till I got home. My husband was so mad, that we drove back and gave them back their stale chips, although my husband wanted to just throw on the chips on the front porch. No one at the party ate that queso. The other day, the grandparents wanted to go there for lunch. I went, only to make them happy. You guessed it..yuck. I ordered a smothered shredded beef burrito. It came covered in Velveeta, and the beef was actually minced..not shredded. And dirty? Absolutely. It looks great at the table, but as I personally know a kid who did the dishes..that kitchen is filthy.
Don’t eat there…they have no idea what Mexican food is.
