quaint French bistro
Zazie is a cute little French eatery in Cole Valley that serves solid but not really imaginative breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner items. You can get your french toast, scrambles, poached egg dishes, roasted trout, duck cassoulet and chocolate pot du creme. Service tends to be on the aloof side and sometimes hard to track down, especially on busy weekends. But it’s a nice environment, particularly with the charming patio in the back.
We’ve eaten here with our vegetarian niece when she was in town, and she was pleased to find so many veggie options on their breakfast and brunch menu.
Dishes I tried:
lemon ricotta pancakes
This is a standout on their menu. And, the nice thing about many of their morning dishes is that you can order based upon how hungry you are – they come in three sizes. These scrumptious pancakes have lemon curd and raspberry sauce, such a treat!
poached eggs florentine
These eggs come with spinach and portobello mushrooms. As with most of their egg dishes, I found this to be underseasoned. Like I couldn’t taste any salt or pepper at all. So once I sprinkled some of both on there, it tasted much better. I love eggs and could eat them everyday, so I wish they would add a little pizazz to their egg dishes.

Great service and ambience, especially if you ask to sit in the back garden area. From appetizer to dessert, the meal was scrumptious. It was a great place for my best buddies and I to catch up over a good meal. It’s extremely cozy and suggest getting to the restaurant early if want a seat.

My favorite restaurant of the city. The matride knows my name (sometimes). Zazie is not flashy or trendy, just a neighborhood treasure that happens to be across the street from my apartment. Lovely for brunch, lunch or dinner. Sat. & Sun brunch inspires a HUGE line, so expect a wait. Once you get in, it’s worth it. Oh, and you don’t have to wait for the tables on the sidewalks, so if it’s nice outside and you don’t mind eating amongst the waiting hoard, grab one!
