ZORBAS THE DANCING GREEK 5 STARS

Hi ,I have had the pleasure of expericeing a great little place on fairmount ave called Zorbas! This greek place offers up some of the best dishes philly has to offer, dishes from adelaide to athens.Zorbas offers cold appetizers and hot .salads, platters for lunch, sandwhichs on pita, vegetarian, desserts, combination platters, seafood, lamb, sauteed dishs and dishes from the charcoal grill. This place is just great from its cozy atmosphere to the service and most importanly the great food,I stared with chick peas spread (hummus)made with chick peas, olive oil and tahini sauce with garlic and lemon, wow this is a very impressive dish,so fresh and full of flavors ,next came a dish from northern greece which was mussels in red wine with feta cheese, this dish was meaty mussel meat sauteed in red wine and tomatoe sauce with feta cheese added wow this was perhaps the best mussel dish I have ever eaten,I mean the mussels were so plump and juicy and the feta cheese was so fresh along with tomatoes that were on the sweet side, this is a seafood lovers must try dish, next was the lamb dish (FOURNO)this was a leg of lamb roasted in the oven with garlic and lemon,my god what excellent flavors this man produced from these ingredents, I was in shock and speechless, the fourno comes with just the right amount of rice, roasted potatoes and mixed veggies which were so crisp and clean tasting, the desserts are to kill for and let me tell you i tried them all but the baklava which Zorba makes fresh everyday along with all his foods was my favorite dessert and cant be topped by anything else, the baklava is a dish made of layers of filo dough stuffed with walnuts and topped with honey syrup, wow this is so addictive.WHILE ZORBAS OFFERS DELICATE AND DELICIOUS FOOD HE ALSO OFFERS THE RUSTIC HEARTY TYPE TOO THIS IS A MUST TRY AND BELIVEVE ME YOU WILL BE BACK AGAIN appetizers start at 5.00 and entrees go anywhere from 9.00 to 22.00 dollars and every dish is well worth it.The menu offers so much and will soon become your favorite as it is mine, next I’m trying a fish dish which the greeks always cook their fish with olive oil and lemon and from the site and smell of the fish dishes I seen coming out of the kitchen I know I will be in greek heaven…5 stars..big time

Greater Philadelphia Ethnic Dining May 2009 Meetup

The May event for the Greater Philadelphia Ethnic Dining Meetup that my wife and I organize was held at Zorba’s Taverna.

As organizers of the group, we always struggle with finding new places to try for ourselves versus sharing the great places we have been to with the other members. For May we decided to let the group know about this fantastic little Greek place that we had found last October.

Zorba’s is located just down the street from Eastern State Penitentiary, on Fairmount Avenue. We were going to Terror Behind the Walls, and had time to kill before our ticket time, so we decided to grab something to eat. We wondered down the street looking for some place that wasn’t over-crowded and found Zorba’s.

The food at Zorba’s was outstanding. We decided to split the Cold Appetizer Platter, which was a fantastic mix of different finger foods. We also ordered the Mixed Grill platter, which was huge and allowed us to sample many different types of meat. They food is really great.

When we were here for the Meetup event, the seated us in a large room that could be used for much larger groups. The first time we were here we didn’t even know that this place existed. The service was fantastic, and our group actually ended up being at the restaurant past closing time without them saying a word.

I would definitely recommend Zorba’s for anything from a small intimate meal, to a large party.
