My follow-up review for this restaurant. Read my previous review for this restaurant here.
-
Sliced Fish with Ginger and Scallions
Perfectly tender white fish slices, sauteed in brown sauce with ginger and scallion. This dish is resplendent – one of my new Spicy and Tasty favorites!
-
Cold Sesame Noodles
Fresher and less gummy than the traditional preparation. These thin noodles with sesame and lots of green and crunchy garnishes are actually quite good.
-
Cucumber with Garlic and Sesame Oil
Ask them to add fresh garlic to the cucumber with sesame oil, and you’ll arrive at a dish that I used to order for lunch all the time in China. It definitely helps beat the heat of all the fiery peppers!

Best Authentic Sichuan Food in New York
Having lived in China for over a year, I’m a fairly respectable authority on Chinese food, but nobody’s opinion carries more weight than that of my friend from Chengdu, Sichuan. So I brought her here, to this clean but simple spot in Flushing, to get her verdict on whether Spicy & Tasty lives up to its name. She agreed with me—this place has the best and most authentic Sichuan food in the city.
The twice-cooked pork (hui guo rou) was spot-on, with crispy bacon-like strips of pork swimming in a mound of leeks. The spicy, water-boiled fish (shuizhu yu) is another dish to try, better than the beef version prepared the same way. The stir-fried hot peppers were too hot even for my expert friend, so stick with the string beans (ganbian sijidou) instead—they’re exemplary.
-
Twice-cooked pork
Perfect rendition of a classic dish.
-
Spicy rabbit tendon
The name is a little misleading. The rabbit meat is served on the bone, but there were no tendons in sight, so no worries for the squeamish folk. It was just flavorful and spicy, with tender bits of meat.
-
Spicy water-boiled fish
The fish was cut into soft pieces, without a bone to be found, and the spicy, oily soup barely seeped into the flesh, tinging it with flavor but not overwhelming your mouth.
-
Stir-fried hot peppers
These peppers were promising, but they really just overpowered us. You have to be a super-hardcore capsaicin addict to tango with these peppers.
