Don and Sweet Sue's Cafe
Feb 6, 2008
Great diner/cafe food
This place serves huge portions of freshly prepared sandwiches, soups, salads—anything you might expect to see on a good diner menu. I’ve been eating here for over 12 years and I have never had anything but a terrific meal at this place. Wait staff knows their stuff and the food and portions can’t be beaten. Great burgers, chopped liver, corned beef and terrific breakfast choices.

Hamburger w/fries
The burger and fries are served piping hot and are enough to fill up a big eater. Everything tastes super fresh. Service and product is consistently on the mark.
Joe's Deli & Restaurant

Great Sandwiches and Soup
This small restaurant, set back a bit on Madison Avenue just west of 117th Street, is a great place for a huge corned beef or pastrami sandwich or a half sandwich and cup of soup. Wait staff knows what they’re doing and this place has lots of repeat customers. Take out business here is efficient. Owners work behind the counter preparing food items. Everyone is friendly here and their corned beef is tough to beat anywhere, at any price.
-
Corned Beef Sandwich
Huge corned beef sandwich. Corned beef is cut to order, served with a pickle spear and horseradish and/or mustard. Can’t think I’ve had a better corned beef sandwich anywhere, other than perhaps New York City.
-
Grilled cheese sandwich w/fries
Cooked right in front of the customer--served piping hot and just right--at this price it can’t be beaten for a quick meal.
Mitchell's Ice Cream Parlor

Best Ice Cream in the county
Mitchell’s Ice Cream makes their own ice cream every day. It’s always super fresh. I’ve never had better or fresher butter pecan or coffee ice cream.
-
Buter pecan ice cream
This ice cream is the best—more pecans and the best flavor ever. Their coffee ice cream is also delicious and very rich and fresh.

Players on Madison
Feb 5, 2008
Always exceptional with terrific wait staff
Players on Madison has been serving up terrific pasta dishes and pizzas for years. Effectve February, 2008, they’ve started a happy hour, 5-7 pm M-F and 5-8 pm on Sundays, where for $5 you can have any martini they make and for another $5 either a Kobe beef burger w/cheese, lettuce, bacon and tomato or their 12” cheese pepper pizza. Their regular menu offers lots of unusual mix and match pastas, sauces and toppings. I’ve never been disappointed with a meal at this place and I’ve been going here for years.
-
Linguini with red pepper sauce
They offer a smaller sized pasta for about $7.00 and a slightly larger size for about $9.00. The smaller sized portion is plenty for most folks. The bread they serve is very, very good.
Stonehouse Grille

Great hamburgers
This restaurant is family-oriented and has daily specials, such as on Wednesdays, bald men eat free, or Tuesdays when a large pizza w/one topping is priced at $7.00. The hamburgers here are served with regular or sweet potato fries and honey. The burgers are extremely juicy and and delicious and the fries, well, don’t miss them.

Hamburger w/sweet potatoe fries
This burger will be tough to beat. Served with lettuce, tomato, onion, and sweet or regular fries. Always juicy, very hot and huge! Be very hungry if you order a burger at this place.

Club House Grille

Consistently good food
Great hamburgers and beautifully grilled fresh vegetables (zucchini, red and orange peppers, asparagus.) French onion soup is very good here. Burgers are served with fries and a choice of two toppings (such as grilled onions and grilled mushrooms.)

Angelo's Pizza
Jan 31, 2008
Good, old fashioned eat-in pizzeria
Angelo’s in Lakewood serves the best pizza I’ve had anywhere in this area. It has a dining area where a family or friends can share a pizza made with home made dough and sauce. This is the best pizza to eat in the restaurant or to take out. Their house salad is terrific, as well.

Pizza
Pizza served here is how pizza is supposed to be served and enjoyed. This is the real deal. Side salads are a great bargain here.

Overpriced and misrepresented menu items
My husband I and I took two of our friends here for dinner shortly after the Cleveland Plain Dealer gave a good review to this restaurant. I must admit this was about a year ago; however, it was a miserable experience. Two of us ordered prawns with pasta and instead, we received very small shrimp. When I complained the waiter brought us a complimentary small bowl of additional small shrimp. This dish was quite expensive. For four of us our total bill was $120.00 (no alcoholic beverages were consumed.) This entire meal was a huge disappointment. I am sorry now that I agreed to pay for this meal. When I returned home I wrote the owner about the experience. He sent me a reply with two $10.00 certificates. I will never again waste my time or money at this restaurant and I have shared this miserable experience with all my friends.

Pasta with prawn
Pathetic. What they advertised as prawn looked more like bait. They misreprensented this dish and should have told us they ran out of prawn. Instead, they tried to pass off tiny shrimp as prawn and I foolishly paid for the meal. In retrospect I wish I would have refused to pay.

Cabin Club

Great steaks and terrific service
This place consistently serves wonderfully prepared and delicious steaks. They have a lunch menu, a mid-day menu and a dinner menu; however, orders may be placed from the dinner menu at any time (excluding baked potatoes which are available only at dinner time.) Steaks are exceptionally good and service and atmosphere is tops. Great place to have a quiet meal for two.

Fratello's
Jan 23, 2008
Don't miss this place
Fratello’s consistently serves delicious pasta, wonderfully dressed and fresh salads, and their signature dish, Fratello chicken or shrimp, is not to be missed. All their dishes are top notch and moderately priced. Service is very, very good.
-
Chicken Fratello
Fresh, wonderfully seasoned, not too rich and not overcooked. Served with very good bread and perfectly dressed fresh green salad. The shrimp fratello (a lemon butter sauce) is unbelievable luscious.
