Ming Dynasty
Aug 17, 2008
Dim Sum!
The dim sum at Ming Dynasty is really the best that I have tried in Albuquerque. Their roasted pork buns (steamed and baked) are the best I have ever had, compared to dim sum in Cleveland, Ohio and Boston, Massachusetts. Ming Dynasty supplies the customer with a wide array of choices with four carts full of tasty treats. They have the usual fare: congee, shumai, roasted pork buns, egg custard cups, sesame balls, chicken feet, etc. The staff is courteous and friendly. Ming Dynasty’s atmosphere is simple and pleasing with spacious tables. Even when it is crowded on Sundays, you never feel as though you will bump into other guests. All I have had at Ming Dynasty is the dim sum, so I cannot vouch for other items on their menu, but from what I can deduct, if Ming Dynasty’s dim sum tastes great, their Chinese food must follow the same pattern.

Amerasia Sumosushi

Dim Sum...?
Today, I tried Amer Asia-Sumo Sushi’s dim sum and was appalled. I am used to china town Asian dim sum cuisine; this could not even be on the same level. They brought out a cart with three levels, yet only the top was filled; the rest were empty. That, in itself, is not a good sign. I tried their steamed bbq roast pork bun and the filling was way too sweet (not in a good way either). Their fried garlic beef tasted good, but it was so rough and hard that it cut the roof of my mouth when I tried to eat it. The shumai was filled with rice, more than pork and topped with a pea and carrot slice. It was prettier than it tasted: mushy and bland. I can see why kids would like it, but an adult’s palate it did not please. The only dish that seemed okay was their spring onion pancake that resembled a frozen one bought from the local Chinese grocery, only smaller. All in all, I found the dim sum to be very disappointing and would not recommend it whatsoever to those who like the traditional fare. I cannot speak for the sushi, which I hope is better. Dismayed, disappointed, and slightly physically injured are the only words which can describe my experience with dim sum at Amer Asia-Sumo Sushi.
