Don’t be tricked into this place. First, there were six people in our party. My family went to Umi sushi bar and grill for a mini celebration. The atmosphere was very pleasant but we should have realized there was something wrong when we were seated in the middle of the sushi bar. Note we were looking for a Japanese grill and Umi is only a Sushi bar, not a grill.
Our sashimi and sushi sat on the bar drying out for 20 minutes before it was delivered to our table. We had to wait for the waitress to reappear from the back room then had to ask her to bring more drinks.
When we received the bill, we were charged 18% gratuity. I asked to speak to the manager and was told that no one was available. The waitress said if I had a problem to talk to her. I told her she was the problem and that I did not feel her service was worth a gratuity. She said, “What I do…I didn’t spill drinks”.
We will never eat at this rip off place again and will tell everyone who visits Austin to stay as far away as possible.
