Mikki's Restaurant
Sep 4, 2008
Super breakfast
I had business in town this morning and was early at Mikki’s. Just in time to see the police and the clean up of a smashed tempered glass door. A thief(s) had broken in to raid the cash register. Never-the-less the service and quality of food was truly excellent.
A regular customer grabbed the coffee pot and served the rest of us coffee while the owners took care of business. The owner/head cook and bottle washer cooked my breakfast to perfection.

Country fried steak and eggs
The tender steak was smothered in gravy. A generous portion of home fries and perfectly scrambled eggs started my day off on a better foot. I could not ask for more in terms of quality and value.

Farmer Boys

Good service, very clean but disappointing food.
I have visited this restaurant several times but today is the last. I recall having previously had the fish & chips. It was OK but nothing to write about.
Today I had the Denver omelet and coffee. The omelet was about as plain and uninspiring as it could be. I wonder if it was machine made. What got me going was the crummy hash browns served. They had to have come out of a bag of frozen shredded potatoes and likely were Iowa potatoes, that, IMO, are not the best choice for hash browns. It bothered me that the glob of potatoes was sort of crisp on the outside and raw and stickey in the middle. When I tried to liven things up with catsup the plastic bottle was empty. For the first time in a long time I did not clean my plate.
The coffee was good as was the wheat toast served.

Shilla Korean Cuisine
Aug 21, 2008
A newly established small Korean restaurant
This is the site of several previous Mexican reataurants. It is newly redecorated, clean and the service is very good.
The two of us arrived at 7:30 pm on a Thursday and had the place to ourselves. There is seating for about thirty.
Soft drinks served in cans. Beer and wine available. Children OK.

Fried Chicken with salad
The chicken was all dark meat butchered in a strange way. Chicken bones shatter when struck with a cleaver. I would not order it again.
-
Orange Chicken
A generous portion of chicken with very good flavor. Served with choice of rice.

Peterson's Donut Corner
Aug 12, 2008
Donuts do not get better than this.
This is the place to get donuts and like pastry. The selection is large and they are baked fresh on site. The coffee is good also.
You order your donuts at an outside window and can use the outside tables if you like. Most people seem to order a few donuts to take home.
Prices vary but about $7.00 will get you a dozen of the best donuts I have found in Southern California.
Vallarta Supermarkets
Aug 10, 2008
A new supermarket with Mexican eat in or take out.
Vallarta Supermarket is not a restaurant in the usual sence but you sure can select from a wide range of Mexican plates. There are handy tables and chairs for eating pronto.
The many entries are in steam table trays behind glass and a server makes up your plate on the spot.
Clean as a whistle and sure smelled good. I was not in an eating mood but will surely be back!
Update: I’ve been back. Had the Mexican style beef soup- $4.95 for a huge bowl with torteas.Friend had a huge plate of carnetas for $6.50. Everything outstanding.
Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery

The cooking staff needs to try harder.
This is a food and fancy beer joint. It was clean and the service was prompt.
I am thinking that someone in authority thinks that the bottom line can be improved by cutting quality and raising the price. They had a good crowd when I was there but that may not last for long.

New York Strip dinner
We both ordered the 11 ounce New York Strip for $23.50 each. I have had better New Yorks from Vons on special. The shoestring French fries likely had been frozen. All in all a poor meal for the price.

Fortune Dragon Chinese Restaurant
Jul 21, 2008
A small Chinese all you can eat buffet.
The food is good but far more limited in selection than the newer and larger Chinese buffets. If you are in the mood for inexpensive Chinese food this is a good place to go. Lunch is $5.95 and dinner is a dollar more. Price includes soft drink.
I would stop by more often if there was a change in one of the offerings each day. I get bored with the same selections all the time.
Clean and friendly service. Children welcome and they get a good price break.

Mikki's Restaurant

Prime rib all day
Mikki’s changed ownership about a year ago. Everything is just as good and the hours have been extended. This is a nice family restaurant with modest pricing and plenty of selections from breakfast on.
The service is friendly and the place is spotless.
The last time I was in the owners wife was passing out free grapefruit from their tree. That should give you an idea of how friendly the place is.

The Wrangler Family Barbeque
Jul 21, 2008
Old barbeque restaurant
The Wrangler reminds me of restaurants in the 50s in both decour and food. The menu items are mostly over cooked and plain by todays standards. I would rate the barbeque ribs as tough and lacking in rich taste. The baked chicken is a crime, being a scraney chicken leg quarter that has been baked about twice as long as necessary. The french fries are above average as is the coleslaw.
The counter order taker was friendly and everything seemed clean.
-
Daily special
There is usualy a daily special of either a beef or ham sandwich with one side and a soft drink for $4.95.
The sandwich consists of a goodly portion of meat served on a cheap bun with a serving of sweet barbeque sauce on the side.

Pick Up Stix

Quick Chinese Food
This is a chain restaurant with a good selection of Asian food. You order at the counter and your food is brought to you. Portions are generous and quality is quite good. Very clean and neat.
They have an extensive line of take out food and cater to large parties. If one wants to have Asian food for more than a few people this is a good place to check out.

Orange Peel Chicken
A special with plenty of orange peel chicken, lots or rice either brown or white and a small salad is a lot of food for $4.95 plus tx. I downrated this dish because my companion and I both felt the dish was to spicey hot. I will try again.
