The absolute best gyro’s in Toronto!.
Unlike most places that use the big stick of meat paste, messini’s uses real meat, they have a choice of chicken, pork, or lamb.
I normally have pork, and the unique thing about these guys is that on the pita with the gyros meat, they put french frys in it.
Another great thing about these guys is their greek salad, it is a proper greek salad, no lettuce, just peppers, onions, lots of feta and some olive oil.
Whenever I go, I always start with the greek fries, they are dollar chips that are covere4d in feta chese, olive oil, then put into a salamander to melt and crisp up the cheese.
They have desserts, but I’ve always been to full to try them.

The best ice cream I have ever had!!
I had read raves about this place on chowhound, and needed to try it out.
My first visit, the pear cider ice cream caught my eye, and after sampling all iknds of other flavors ended up being my favorite.
Over 2 days, I tried the chocolate cherry (wonderful for dark chocolate lovers) chestnut (sweet with a great aftertaste) grapefruit (as bitter and refreshng as the real thing) chai masala (my second favorite, I could taste it before it reached my mouth, the scent was so wonderfully strong) milk chocolate (tasted just like chocolate milk)
I really can’t wait to have this ice cream again, it is truly the best I have ever had, and I am sad they are not here in Toronto.

I really wanted to rate this place badly, just because the service was so unbelievably slow (it took about 45 minutes for a hamburger and 2 orders of poutine) but the food was so good I had to forgive them.
It’s a small neighborhood place that really took some searching, and since it’s not in a tourist district, the staff, and the menu are all french.
It wasn’t too tough to figure out how to order poutine (fries with cheddar cheese curds and gravy)(plus the version I had included bacon and fried onions)
The burger was good, nothing special, but wow, the poutine blew me away, I recommend it to anyone.

walking past the dumpling house (very close to Kensington Market) My attention was caught by their front window, it is here that they stand and make their signature dish, the dumplings.
Many people walking alonmg Spadina will stop to watch them for a minute, I decided to sample them.
It was $6.00 for a dozen fried dumplings(chose pork and chives out of the 10-15 vaieties available)
They were delivered on a large plate that looked like 1 giant dumpling (because they end up all stuck together after they are fried) They were delicious.
All the sauces on the table guaranteed that every one would taste different.
I highly recommend this place, a great quick snack, the staff are very friendly, the service is quick, and the food is fantastic.

insane amounts of food!!!
I read about this place long before going, and even though I had been told what to expect, I still could not believe the size of the dish these guys are famous for.
The one pound BLT sandwich holds one whole pound of bacon!!
It was impossible for 2 of us to even dream of eating it all.
The rest of the menu looks great too, I have had the corned beef hash with eggs, and the western ommelette in my 2 visits.
Both were huge and very tasty.
Highly recommend it to anyone passing through Birch Run

mmm, burrito
Big Fat Burrito is a great shop in the heart of Toronto’s Kensington Market that sells fresh made to order burrito’s.
They offer steak, chicken, shredded pork. vegetarian and yam burrito’s (and have recently began offering their breakfast burrito (stuffed with scrambled eggs) all day.
Service here is quick and very friendly, and they have a nice seating area that is a great place to sit and watch the people of Kensington come and go through their giant windows that open to the sidewalk.
I have tried and enjoyed all but the vegetarian burrito, and all are highly recommended.

Wonderful fish
I’ve previously raved about Chippy’s fish, but I am almost sure that Reliable serves a tastier fish than Chippy’s does.
I had seen the place on Restaurant Makeover, and was impressed when the chef they brought in told him not to change the fish because it was perfect (meanwhile he was tearing the rest of the menu up)
So I decided I wanted to try their fish, and was lucky enough to have a chance to a few weeks back.
The fish was a good size, but the breading was what brought it to another level, it was perfect.
The only reason Chippy’s is still my favorite fish and chip place in Toronto is that their french fries are much better than anyone elses.
If they find a way to make better chip’s than Chippy’s, they will be my new favorite

Great sandwiches
California sandwiches is a bit of a secret, by secret, I mean it is hidden away, and you really would have no reason to be in the neighborhood unless yuo are headed there for a sandwich.
So because it is hidden in a residential area, all of the customers (and there are many) are there because of word of mouth.
I had heard of California for a long time before I ever got there.
There are many bakeries throughout Toronto selling veal sandwiches, but as good as a sandwich was, someone would always say California is better.
I jumped at the chance when a friend offered to take me there.
Walked in the door and was greeted by about a dozen people waiting for their orders, and the wonderful smells of fresh breads, and cooking sauce.
I went up to the counter and put in my order and was told it would be 15-20 minutes.
I learned that it takes a while because they don’t even bread the veal until your order is placed.
The sadwich was just as good as everyone told me it would be.
I enjoyed it in the small seating area that they have inside along with an order of spicy olives.
I will certainly be back
