Restaurant and food is presented beautifully. Everything is vegan or organic or fresh. Food is pretty good (but remember, with all those restrictions you do lose flavor). Food is brought out “whenever it’s ready” we were told. Kitchen staff hovered over the plates like artists at the pass-that’s always nice to see.

Not too shabby fine-dining restaurant in the heart of the city. I like the fact that the menu is sophisticated without being stuffy. Wanted to have the lobster grilled cheese sandwich but they were out, opted for a great wild mushroom soup instead. The tiger shrimp curry was much too sweet but the belgian chocolate smores made up for it.
Very good service. Expect to pay $150 with wine for two.

This is a well-known chain of restaurants. I can understand big working-class families resorting to this place. I ordered lemonade and the scallop/prawn linguini. The lemonade tasted like a powdered mix, then I boiled under the weird heat lamp over our table. I listened to the woman complaining behind us, “I’m dyin’ over here!” for the same reason. The whole restaurant was boiling. The wait staff (including a transvestite) was new and inexperienced. Otherwise, huge menu, lots of selection and big servings. If you like the taste of frozen food….

I hate a pushy waitor, a waitor that has to squueze in a suggestion before he even reaches your table “Wine, martini??” (it’s like 3 p.m). Then appetizers, then dessert, then coffee. He didn’t ask how our meals were he just stated “Everything delicious?!”..I mean how can you even answer that negatively?
Probably the only place you’ll find a pizza with pears and chilli flakes on it. Would be alot better off as a casual pub-like place than fine-dining. Lovely open space, but huge windows are sealed shut with blinds. What a waist. Too dark. Hideous and unnessecary plastic-bead chandeleirs throw-off the “classic” feel of the place.

I’m only reviewing the bottom lounge part of this restaurant…a nice, welcoming atmosphere. Open kitchen at the tail end gives you something to look at, 2 t.v’s on mute playing any can’t-miss sports events, a rectangular bar at centre. A red grid above the bar makes for interesting/comfortable lighting. Waitresses are clean and attentive. Fun art work and music, good drinks and nibblies…
Reserve a table and bring a group of friends.

Like Casey’s, this is a restaurant where posh meets casual perfectly in the middle, with some fancy booze on top. Pretty much everything on the menu sounds good, and is prety good. Drinks are fun and yummy. Not an intimate setting at all and you are a bit suffocated and pressed for time ,so, pick your eating partners carefully.

Yikes, what a scene. The place is too big and empty for one thing, with stadard outdated “Mexican themes”. Boring. A great location is totally wasted. Food and booze is exceptable, but the service ruined it. We got some jackass who rubbed his nose and coughed every 5 seconds. When Ian’s burrito came out cold we had to flag the bus boy down to go get the waitor who then brought out another dish by the time I was done my food and didn’t bother to comp anything from the bill. When we signed off the bill without leaving a tip he ran out of the place to stop us on the sidewalk and apologize. AWKWARD.

Stopped in for Sunday brunch, thinking it was just another bohemian cafe. Very pleasantly suprised by a huge brunch menu with unique twists (nothing too over the top, just some nice changes..). I ordered the Tropicana-scrambled eggs, avacado, the entire grilled half of a mango and various other grilled fruits like plantain skewered on a huge stick. When have you ever seen that option??! Food is totally edible, not just pretty..I cleaned my plate right off. Waitresses are young and sweet, not pretentious or stuck-up. Order the Bengal tea!

A very new, upper-scale, over-sized and slightly un-cozy Italian restaurant. Waitors arrive with their own little comedy routine.. (Waitor one: Jimmy I took their order for you, their having the… [bunch of jumbled Italian]..okay?" Waitor 2: “I have no idea what he just said, I’m Irish..”). But they truly are pure-bred Italians, complete with special attention and manners towards the customers who in turn seem to appreacitae it.
No complaints about the food or elaborate wine list. Your expected to mull over your meal and drink for hours by the way-no ones rushing you to pay up and get out, which is a nice change. Homemade vanilla bean ice cream for dessert makes a simple but lovely treat.

This is the newest posh restaurant in town. Apparently it has taken business away from Acton’s. Well, I don’t see why. First of all, the interior is a hideous red and black color that’s outdated and unfriendly. My father and I felt like were cooking alive under the hallogen lights being used to show off bad art work. I had a tasty spicy sweet corn soup, very good. But was then served almost cold spinach/feta ravioli. The only reason I give it 3 stars is because the service was great and the owner looked like a younger version of crocodile dundee. Oh, something else that threw me off: the kitchen got word that my grandfather was with us and sent out rather unnecessary and pretentious “palette cleansers” (braised tuna and coconut sorbet..?!). You shouldn’t be trying so hard if your supposed to be doing well.

08/10/2007I am sorry that Alex Colville’s granddaughter found our art and colours hideous – taste is obviously subjective. She would also note that, were she there more often, every customer gets a palette cleanser which is standard fare at most good restaurants around the world. However, even we are not au courant enought to serve a tuna and coconut sorbet. We try hard because… its important to try hard for discerning patrons from around the globe.
We always recognize Dr Colville and try to make sure his experience is an enjoyable one. He is a good customer and we are delighted when he ventures outside his comfort zone, my competitor in town. We will endeavour to make sure that the food that was served cold is not in the future and we appreciate the comment – it helps us improve
