Excellent neighborhood Chinese restaurant
Buffet at lunch and dinner. Modest size buffet, but best dishes are on the menu. Very modest prices – maybe even low priced. Only the manager speaks English well. Family owned and operated.
Favorite dishes: Crab Rangoon
8-delight Chicken
Chicken with young ginger
Dishes I tried:
8-Delight Chicken
Lots of chicken. 8 different veggies, bright colors, attractive, delicious. Serving enough for 2 people.

One of the Great Inns of New England
The Colonial Inn is the best romantic restaurant west of Boston. The main dining room is just pure elegance in the best of old New England tradition. Service is marvelous and the food is both imaginative and top quality. Surprisingly, the prices are quite moderate.
We went for the early-bird served until 5:30 during the week, but only until 5:00 on Sunday. The world’s BEST clam chowder and dessert are included. Don’t miss the chowder and the apple pie ala mode – they are to die-for. Early birds are prix-fixe, now at $15.95 for a 3-course gourmet meal. Don’t miss it, but the regular menu is wonderful and not over-priced.
Dishes I tried:
Traditional Yankee Pot Roast
Fork-tender eye of round was finished with a succulent gravy. Served with garlic mashed potatoes, and fresh asparagus. Enough to take home for another meal. Wonderful, tasty dish.
Roast Prime Rib of Beef
I asked for and received an end-cut from the roast. It was fork-tender, moist, and tasted strongly of garlic and herbs. There was a little fat typical of prime rib, but not too much. The portion was easily adequate for a big eater, or enough for dinner the next day from the leftovers.

May be the BEST restaurant west of Boston
Highest quality eclectic cuisine. This is the most imaginative chef I have ever had the chance to try! Everything we have ever tried has been beyond belief in TASTE. Seafood, steak, lamb, or veggie – the preparation, service, and quality is breathtaking. Until you have eaten here, you will never have experienced food magic. You will have meats served with veggies in wild combination all for maximum flavor effect. Last week I had a pair of lamb porterhouse steaks, perfectly cooked and served on a bed of couscous with zucchini and portobello mushrooms. Yumm! I can only say that the service reminds me of the service in Europe – you can leave your knife and fork on you appetizer plate, and they bring you clean new service for the entree. First class all around.

Best Italian Restaurant outside Boston
We have eaten several times, and have never had anything less than spectacular Italian food. The portions, in Boston tradition, are large. I recommend sharing any dish at dinner time. Even at lunch, the portions are large enough to take home lunch for another day. Prices are very reasonable. They do charge a little to share a main dish, but they seem to make it a little larger when you do, and they serve it on separate plates.
Dishes I tried:
Pork loin piziola (lunch special)
Loads of pork loin, mushrooms, onions, and both red and green peppers in a marinara sauce served over risotto or pasta. Fantastic dish – enough for two, or next day’s lunch.

Save your appetite for dessert for Cafe Paradiso
Food at most North End restaurants is great to superb, but pass on the desserts. Stretch your legs and walk over to the Cafe Paradiso for your cannoli and cappuccino. This is the most like dining in Italy. A gem among the restaurants right on Hanover Street. Quality is tops.

Non-coastal clam shack
Hidden on MA 119 just east of Groton Center is a classic drive-in restaurant. Good food, well prepared, and unbelievably inexpensive – but served on paper plates or to-go. The dining room seats about 30 on rustic tables and chairs, but is very clean. The seafood is all fried in classic clam shack style, and there are lots of other choices as well. To crown it all off, they have about 50 flavors of ice cream with gigantic New England traditional portions. (get small)
Dishes I tried:
Fried clams
Among the best I have ever eaten, including clams served in Ipswich and Essex.
Fried scallops
Bigger and better than most servings. Not overcooked.

This is a family run local Thai restaurant....
This is a family run local Thai restaurant. The Thai food is authentic, filled with flavor, large portions, and inexpensive. The menu is extensive but allows you to custom design many dishes by choosing the meat and the style of preparation. The small dining room is filled during peak hours with local repeat customers. The service is friendly and fast. They will give you all the white rice you want, and it is good. The hot tea is exceptional – a Lapsang Souchong. We always get the Pad Thai and the Massaman Chicken.
