0 Stars isn't an option?

I have to say…..this was the worst Chinese experience I have ever had.

Maybe their specialty lies in other dishes….but most definitely do NOT try the Sweet and Sour Chicken, or the Sesame Chicken.

I however will never know….because I wont be back. I may not even go into the shopping plaza again because I would see the restaurant…and it would just conjure up the horrid images burned into my head about this dining experience…..it was that bad.

Dishes I tried:

Sweet and Sour Chicken

Again…1 star because 0 isn’t an option…
The Sweet and Sour chicken came dry with fried rice and an egg roll….but the sweet and sour sauce was ONLY packets of duck sauce! I was shocked…and confused…

The breading on the chicken it self was ok…but who has ever heard of DRY sweet and sour chicken with packets of duck sauce? To sum up the dish….think chicken McNuggets……with no dipping sauce……yeah thats about it. No veggies either….

Sesame Chicken

Again…1 star because 0 isn’t an option…

The Sesame Chicken was very hard and dry….and with no broccoli like it says on the menu AND in the picture. The texture of this chicken was Nothing like the Sweet and Sour Chicken…it was like eating breaded bones….with a not very good sesame sauce. Steer Clear…unless your looking for dog food…..and only then if you hate your dog.

Egg Roll

The Egg Rolls have a strange flavor too them…that I have never tasted in an egg roll ….I won’t go into specifics….but they do not shine at producing egg rolls.

A must visit if your in the area

The tap is a small pub in downtown Oxford. They have plenty of TV’s and Beers on tap. They have your standard Bar menu…burgers, sandwiches, fish n chips etc…but the quality is usually outstanding.

A solid sweet and sour chicken. Not the best I have ever had ( From Chinese Gourmet on 15 mile and dodge park) but very good.

Not Bad

We went here once in October 2008…. The food was good…but not QUITE worth the prices we were charged. I would have liked to see a lot more beer’s on tap….as they only had 2. The service was very good, and the place looks great. We will try again sometime….

We tried the Surf and Turf and Porterhouse…both were very good….but the Surf and Turf came with a very strange side which we have never seen nor heard of….it was spinach and broccoli stalks…and wasn’t very good. Overall it was a very nice place for a date, or if the boss is paying.

Dishes I tried:

Porterhouse

Flavor and Taste were very good. They tried to go the route of the extreme upscale steak house here…and only give you a steak….and no potato or sides… If you would compare this steak to others I have had and very upscale steak houses it wouldn’t really hold its own. Toss in a salad and a loaded baked potato for the same price…and I would have been happy.

Surf and Turf (Lobster Tail and Filet)

This is the dish that came with the strange side….it was the side veggie of the day…so i doubt it ever came back….but opt for something else if you get the choice. Overall the steak and Lobster were cooked perfectly…and tasted great.

impressive

We only ate here once about a week ago. The inside is very large and has a large bar area with lots of TV’s. Plenty of beers on tap…I would guess around 10-15 (including Magic Hat #9 which is very hard to find on tap).

We both tried a nightly special….it was called “Black Widow” which was Beef Tenderloin covered in Blue Cheese and Red Peppers on a small Piece of toast, served with a side of loaded mashed potato’s and some veggie’s. This dish was outstanding….and would have it again if its still on the special list when I go back.

They also had VERY good bread sticks….if they are any indication of the pizza they have listed as “famous”….it will be nothing short of spectacular.

The menu also had your standard bar food, Burgers, Sandwiches as well as some Mexican.

Your standard BW3's....only on a lake

If you have been to a BW3’s…then you know the quality of the food. They have plenty of beers on tap…i would say between 15 and 20. Lots of TV’s and NTN trivia, Pool tables, etc.

Occasionally there are issues with small runaway children plowing head-on into the bar area at night…which can be annoying when your trying to smoke, drink and swear as much as possible….. but I figure if they are there…they should enjoy the whole experience.

There is a large non-bar area in the restaurant where the small children are usually housed….however I think a small investment to place half doors in the “family area” to prevent escapes would be a good idea.

The restaurant also has a large deck area on the back over looking a small lake, very nice in the summer time.

Average

The food here is usually pretty good. The Bayou Chicken Tortellini for one is very good. I am not a huge fan of the other pasta dishes….just not my style…but nothing really wrong with them. I have been told the Pizza is very good…but have yet to try.

The star of the show for me is fried pickles….very good and unusual taste.

They have a few beers on tap…I would guess 3-6…but nothing too exciting. There is a small bar area and TV’s throughout. Also a very large moose head….which is cool.

Best appetizer around….deep fried dill pickle wedges. Sounds strange…but tastes awesome.

Fantastic

Best Chinese food I have ever had…anywhere…and at any price. This is a very small mom and pop looking restaurant. It is a very strange and surreal experience picking up your carry out from here….I don’t really know how to explain it…but it just makes me think of a Seinfeld episode. While you are there waiting…be sure to check out some stellar magazine selections from the early 1990’s….you will see what I mean.

Anyway…if you live in the area and like Chinese take out…try this place…..and don’t let the looks fool you.
