Finally something that tastes good!
Went to Alma de Cuba for the second time and was not dissapointed.
As a Caribbeanite, I am always dissapointed when it comes to Latino or Caribbean food but Alma’s was the opposite. The plantains were awesome and food very good, well seasoned and good portions. Drinks were awesome.
The only thing that I wished was the entree’s automatically come with sides, i.e. Salmon with plantains and white rice….you have to purchase those seperate.
Otherwise, kudos!!
Dishes I tried:
Honey Cilantro Salmon and Plantains
Taste good and very filling, will go back again!

Affordable and Filling
I am at this place at least 3-5 days out of the week. The sandwhiches are filling and taste great. I usually get the tuna salad and swiss or roast beef with provolone.
You can also place your order online and just go in and pick it up. Staff is consistently friendly and not a huge turnover, rolls, meats, etc. are FRESH meaning you wouldn’t be using your medicare plan after eating here. Highly recommend if you work in the city and want a good sandwich or salad but is on a budget.
If you want to add insult to injury, have one of their Oatmeal Choco. Chip cookie and/or their milkshakes!

Tuna Salad

Too Hot
I love spicy well seasoned hot food but jerk hut food is too hot. They put to much pepper on the food that you can’t even taste it.
I tried it when they first open…felt the same way. I thought they might have changed the way they did things so went back a month ago…still the same.
I am Jamaican and I thought it was just me, but I soon found out that other west indians do not particularly care for it as well. I never told them why I didn’t like it..but when I saw them, they had the same complaint.
If they hold up a little bit, we might actually taste the food.
Dishes I tried:
Meat with Rice and peas.
I couldn’t tell you…all I tasted was pepper.

Used to be awesome
I just don’t know what happened to this place. This place used to be great…food was awesome then they must have changed cooks or management cause it just went down hill from there.
You might go one day and food is good, next aweful. I stopped going because the later got consistent.
And no matta what time yu go there, they NEVER have any plantains…which is absurd since they right up the street from 2 west indian markets.
Dishes I tried:
meat dish, rice and peas, hush puppies
depends on which way the wind blows.

All I can say is ...........WOW!
All I can say is Wow…this place is awesome. A definite must go to when in NYC or Brooklyn (Atlantic and Schemerhorn).
Food was flavourful and great portions. Staff was friendly and constantly busy. The place is a little on the small side but staff has fast service.
Definite recommend.
Dishes I tried:
Oxtail, Jerk Chicken, rice and peas, plantains and fruit drink.
Can’t wait for my next visit!

Yes I did...so What!!
Yes, I did it….don’t look at me at that manner. Yes I am writing a review of Houlihan’s on City LIne Avenue!!
While I am not a fan of fast food/chain restaurant, I went there for my friends birthday dinner. They forced me, it was my first time.
Here is my order:
French Onion Soup
Pina Colada
Blueberry Martini
Shaved roast beef and provolone on a toasted roll.
1st…the drinks were very good and perfecptly made..a nice even balance…goes down smooth does not come back rough!
French onion soup was great…it was not watered down or week..it had a nice even balance of onions and cheese with bread. You know sometimes you order this soup and it is too watery…or cheese is too thin on top..not this soup, it was gooodd.
Shaved roast beef with Provolone on toasted roll with au jus was a nice healthy portion. I actually took a half home with me and it still tasted awesome. Meat was well seasoned, roll was fresh fries were piping hot.
My friends had the salmon cesar salad which she said was very fresh and tasty and potato soup. Birthday Girl had the chicken alfredo which was very good and filling.
Personally, I think I would prefer this to TGI Fridays. Atmosphere was great..not too noisy and staff was very personable and attentive.
I visited this establishment on Saturday evening around 6:30p.
Dishes I tried:
Shaved Roast Beef au Jus/French Onion Soup
Awesome, fresh, tasty, well seasoned. Definite Try.

Jamaican Fast Food done right!
Okay, is there such a thing as Jamaican Fast Food? Why yes there is!! And the people that can do it right is Golden Krust Restaurants.
For a cheap and filling meal I usually go for the Rice and Peas (and it has coco milk inna it) with oxtail gravy and plantains or Meat Pattie and coco bread.
Food is very flavouful and portions are good. I usually have to save some for later or the next day. They haver locations at Broad and Olney, 69th Street or now the Gallery. I feel the gallery location gives you less food. I frequent the venue at Broad and Olney and staff are very accommodating with questions.
Dishes I tried:
Rice and Peas with Plantains and oxtail Gravy
As long as they keep using coconut milk, they will do just fine.
