Best Chinese Food in San Jose / Cupertino!!
Being a spoiled global / domestic traveler & “very selective” about where I eat, I am almost afraid to expose one of my favorite local delectable hideaways, but I believe Lock Chun is a true pearl among so many mediocore Chinese restuarants in the San Jose area, & I believe its time that their owners receive the recognition they have always deserved.
Literally hidden on Stevens Creek Boulevard, Lock Chun is nestled in a small corner of a rather dull strip center, next to the oversized billards establishment & across from the car dealerships on the east side of the Stevens Creek.
When you walk in, Lock Chun’s interior is nothing to write home about. Much like it’s exterior, it is very modestly decorated on the inside. However, what Lock Chun lacks in ambience, it more than makes up for this with its food & service.
Since I have been going there for many years, I will give you some insight on many of it’s premier dishes. My favorite, bar none, is their Orange Beef. Flavorfully battered & cooked in a slightly spicy & tasty orange sauce, it will leave you wanting more (..& more) , I have never had Orange beef anywhere else that has even come close to matching theirs.
Their Sweet & Sour Chicken, which is not one of my favorite dishes on most Chinese menus frankly, is superb. Instead of choking you with mostly fried batter & a pinch of meat, their approach is to give you a healthy portion of succulent chicken with a light fried skin. The combination is lethal bliss.
Another reason which makes Lock Chun a superior, stand out restaurant is that it has mastered the art of making Chinese cuisine delicious & at the same time, clean & healthy. Their delicious sizzling rice soup does not have (or require) bubbles of oil floating at the top to be delicious. And there is no questionable oily quality to their appetizing noodles that would normally alarm Calorie Counters, Sodium Watchers or Fat Fanatics.
For the vegetarians, my wife loves their sauteed green beans & my daughter loves their eggplant with garlic sauce (in fact, all of their dishes with garlic sauce are scrumptious).
As if the above doesn’t give you enough reaons to go check them out, Lock Chun’s prices are quite reasonable, particularly for their portion sizes & the quality of the foods they use, plus they have a very inexpensive lunch special as well.
Lastly, their service is quite personable & very quick. The only drawbacks that I can think of for them is that they are closed on Sundays & they only take Visa/Mastercard (no Amex)..
Bon Appetite & may your palate be in paradise!

Orange Beef
Please see above…truly one of the finsest Chinese dishes I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Highly recommended!!
