Chantanee Family Thai Restaurant
Oct 11, 2006
Excellent Thai in Bellevue
Being one of my most favorite type of food, I must say that I have been longing for some good thai food for quite some time after living in pittsburgh for over a year now. And Chantanee didn’t disappoint. It’s been mentioned as a local favorite that is hard to find, but when people do, they’re glad they made the effort. They have a long extensive menu that you can see for youself on their website and you can order every dish up to 5 levels of hotness. I chose 3 “hot” and it wasn’t too bad. Next time I may try 4. And if you know your thai food, you can also make requests for any dish and the chef will make it special for you. (it’s a family owned restaurant so it’s got a nice homey feel)

Beef Salad
I recently discovered the beauty of beef salad and I loved this one. Must try, it’s not as whimpy as you think!

Crispy Garlic Chicken (King’s Favorite)
Oh, you gotta get this…The chicken is great and they don’t batter it up too much. Served over a crispy bed of deep fried basil leaves the aroma is wonderful!
-
Golden Prawns
A bit over battered and the prawns were split in a weird manner.
-
Pad Thai
pretty decent for pad thai. I haven’t had fresh seafood in a while, so the shrimp in this was quite good.

Satay
awesome appetizer. I would get this for myself, it’s so goooood! Oh yeah, the peanut sauce for dipping is lipsmackin’ good.
Zachary's Chicago Pizza

A great version of chicago deep dish style pizza
Having tried chicago style pizza in chicago, I still prefer zachary’s pizzas. I did like chicago’s pizza for it’s crispy, flaky crust and layered toppings, but I love Zachary’s liberal use of tomato sauce. A combination of chicago style crust and toppings with Zachary’s tomato sauce would make a complete pizza.
Cafe Intermezzo

Favorite Berkeley Lunch place
The salads are made to order and ingredients fresh. Try it with the sweet vinagrette dressing. Delicious. Sometimes they give you a thick clice of honey wheat bread with your salad but it’s hit and miss.

Best Authentic Asian Food in Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh isn’t known for great ethnic foods, but this place is a welcome little hole in the wall for those who are used to great authentic asian food in larger cities like LA, NY, Bay Area… The food is delicious, the prices are reasonable, but the tables are small and service isn’t great.
Shake Shack

A Pleasant Surprise
On a recent trip to NY, my friend took me to this burger place. The burgers are great and expect to shell out $10-15 for a shack burger, fries and custard/concrete. The burger was tasty and juicy but could have used some red onions. Don’t forget the fries!!!
