Mediocre novelty restaurant

I have pretty mixed feelings about Emporio. On the one hand, the decor is kind of funky and silly, and our service was great, but our food was obviously just assembly-lined out of the kitchen and it didn’t look like any time or effort had gone into it. Maybe my expectations were too high (the place has gotten some good buzz) but I personally thought it was just mediocre and unoriginal. We had a nice experience but probably wouldn’t bother going back unless we’re in the neighborhood.

Dishes I tried:

Garganelli

The garganelli smelled great but the taste just wasn’t there. The pasta was a little bit overcooked, and didn’t stand out. I was surprised to hear it was homemade, actually. It tasted like dry to me. The dish was warm and filling, but also fairly forgettable.

I really enjoyed Ilili. The food was fresh and original and the service was exceptional. I will definitely be back for more!

Not too shabby

Angelo and Maxie’s is a great little steakhouse, good friendly vibe, and tasty steaks. Maybe a little spendy considering where it is, but you get what you pay for, and I’d say it was worth it.
