FareStart Restaurant

Feb 13, 2007 Link

Have a meal and help someone

FareStart is a training site for homeless people who want to work in a restaurant. It is an extended program that includes housing in addition to training. The food is good and the service is stellar. Stop by and enjoy a great meal.

Cafe Panini

Feb 13, 2007 Link

Home of the Pie Goddess

That’s right, the Pie Goddess. She’s been written up locally and nationally for her pies, and she deserves it. The food overall at Panini’s is excellent although the service can be slow, but you have to save room for pie. I love the Peanut Butterfinger pie and my husband swears by the Tollhouse pie heated up with a little ice cream

Krain Corner Restaurant

Feb 13, 2007 Link

Go for breakfast

We meet friends here almost every Saturday for breakfast. The breakfasts are great, with lots of real homefried potatoes. They make a great holidaise for the eggs benedict and they make their own corn beef hash. The servers are fun and friendly. One word of warning: it’s not a great place once you get beyond breakfast.

Kouros Greek & Italian Kuisine

Feb 13, 2007 Link

Great veggie mousaka

This house hidden in Auburn has really good vegitarian mousaka. My husband loves greek food and so we go here pretty often. Don’t let the outside fool you; the inside has a cute decor and you feel at home right away.

Dahlia Lounge

Feb 13, 2007 Link

Worth every penny!

I have loved coming to the Dahlia for years and across a few locations! It’s hard to pick a favorite because the menu is all about what’s in season being served well prepared and presented with dash and class. I don’t drink but my friends rave about the cocktails. I rave about the desserts. If you are going out for a nice evening in Seattle or a truly romantic date, this is the place.

This is something you have to be lucky enough to catch when it is available but if you go and it’s on the menu, grab it. The dressing is light and lets the delicate flavor of the “whites” (which would be the greens in any other salad) be the main focus.

Maggiano's Little Italy

Feb 13, 2007 Link

Nice atmosphere; okay food

I take my Italian food very seriously after taking a cooking tour in Italy last year. While the portions at Maggiano’s are huge, the food is just okay. Everything is over done, too much sauce, too much cheese, just too much. I always leave full but also feeling really heavy.

Bridle Trails New York Pizza

Feb 13, 2007 Link

Great pizza; mediocore service

I go here about once a week for pizza. It is good New York pizza with a great crust and lots of toppings. They only have medium and large pizzas but if you go by yourself, you can get any of their pizzas as a calzone which is great for just one person. But, I get the medium pizza and take some for lunch the next day. The service is very casual as is the atmosphere so you need to go there for the food not the ambience. And I think their booths are uncomfortable so I usually sit at a table.

Taj Palace

Feb 13, 2007 Link

A repeat dinner spot for me

This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants. I can go in and order the vegitarian dinner with Nan and leave full and happy with lunch for the next day. The food is consistently good and the service is friendly and efficient. My only complaint probably won’t bother most folks: I often read when I go out to eat and Taj can be a little dark for this. But if you’re looking for nice atmosphere and great food, give them a try.

Teapot Vegetarian House

Feb 13, 2007 Link

It's not just Zen; it's kosher

The Teapot is a great vegan restaurant and a result it works well for us veggies and for folks who eat kosher. I’ve taken lots of non-vegitarian friends and family there and everyone has been blown away by how good the food is.

If you are in the mood for chicken -- even if you don’t eat meat -- these will hit the spot. They come with a wonderful dipping sauce and often this and dessert is all I have.

This stuff is so good they often run out of it early so if you want some, order it when your order you entree. With mango and blueberry garnish this dessert is outstanding.

Mama Lucia's Italian Kitchen

Feb 13, 2007 Link

Best Lasgne I've ever had

A friend recommended Mama Lucia’s to me or I might never have found it tucked away in a strip mall. I wasn’t overly impressed with the decor but I loved their Spinach Lasgne. It has paper thin pasta, a great sauce and just the right proportions of spinach and cheese. I would go there anytime for Italian.
