Komatsu Japanese Cuisine
May 4, 2007
Friendly, traditional Japanese restaurant
I found Komatsu almost by accident as I am a regular customer of A Bellagio (directly across the street). If you are headed down Central Avenue from the Winchester direction, right before you cross the light rail tracks you will see a sign pointing to Komatsu, which is in the Water Tower Plaza (300 Orchard City Drive). The restaurant has the overall feel of a small, intimate, very traditional Japanese restaurant. Fish is always fresh, staff is always friendly. The first few visits I stuck with Bento boxes and items like chicken teriyaki or tempura. Then I slowly ventured into the sushi menu and I was glad I did. They have an extensive menu, so you’ll still be trying new items after many visits. The first time I visited I knew I’d return, and I’m sure you will too.

Crazy Roll
The Crazy Roll is from the “Chef Special Sushi” section of the menu. It is shrimp tempura, cucumber, and avocado, topped with grilled eel. The combined flavors are complex and rich.

A Bellagio

Beautiful atmosphere, delicious food
A Bellagio has gone through a few changes in the last year, all in the name of providing an improved experience for its customers. The interior is a work in progress, with new carpeting, lighting fixtures and more. The Lunch Menu was recently revamped to include more salads, panini, pasta and other dishes (less of the “dinner entree”-style lunch). As always the food is prepared with skill and beautifully presented. The ingredients remain top-notch, and the service is consistently courteous and professional.

Spaghetti Carbonara
Carbonara is a rich dish…definitely not something you’d eat every day…but the craving arrives every now and then and A Bellagio has an excellent version, with al dente spaghetti blended with pancetta, egg yolks and parmesan. If you want something lighter, the Caprese (fresh mozzarella, basil, tomatoes and olive oil) is delicious.

La Pizzeria
Jan 15, 2007
The Best Pizza in Silicon Valley
Now THIS is pizza. No “cardboard” or chewy / gummy crust. La Pizzeria’s crust is thin and tasty. In the traditional Italian style, you’ll find several toppings per pizza. Standard size is approximately the same as a take-out “medium” size. The salads are great, especially the Ceasar. Panini is good too but I come here for the pizza and that’s all I’m interested in. The toppings are creative and fresh and the atmosphere is very relaxing.

Margherita
This is the “basic,” no-frills traditional Italian Pizza, the “Margherita.” But what a pizza it is…fresh mozarella kissed with basil on the bed of La Pizzeria’s home made sauce and thin crust. Start with this one, you won’t be disappointed.
