Cozy Noodle & Rice
Jul 23, 2008
I heart this place
Seriously, I probably eat here once a week or order delivery. I thought I was pretty bored with Pad Thai, but Cozy’s just tastes so much better than all the rest. I’m totally addicted to their rangoons and pad thai. So much so that I’ve asked my husband to work there to get all the recipes! He didn’t so I guess I’ll just have to keep coming back.

Pad Tai
This Pad Thai is really one of the best that I’ve had. I got the chicken pad thai to be exact but it seems to excel where other thai shops plateau. The portions are not bad and it’s surprisingly flavorful.
Cafe Bolero

The Cuban place I've been looking for
I’m always on a search for some great cuban food and Cafe Bolero really hits the spot. I’ve been there a few times and luckily every single time, I’ve had delicious food. Not only is the food awesome, but the prices are not too bad either. The last time I went there, there was a live band which made for some fun atmosphere. I think this may be my new place for that Latin food craving.
-
Lechon Yuca 7 congri
I was pretty impressed not knowing what to expect. There’s this pork dish I keep looking for and this was pretty close to it. I was definitely satisfied.
-
Empanadillas (2)
This place is great for empanadas! Crispy, filling, and 2 for $6-not to bad of a price!
-
Croquetas
I have always been a fan of Cafe Iberico’s croquetas and now I am a fan of Cafe Bolero’s as well. The ham wasn’t very overpowering and it was overall crispy and tasty.
Latin Sandwich Cafe

Craving Cuban Sandwiches?
Well I was actually. I happened to be driving by and noticed the sign that read “House of Empanadas and Caribbean Food”-luckily I love empanadas so I figured I’d give this place a shot. The place looks like a standard mom and pop latin cafe so don’t expect too many frills but the food and price more than makes up for it. I ordered an empanada which was pretty good and opted for the Cuban Steak sandwich. Both were surprisingly great. They were pretty close to the ones I’ve had in South Florida and I definitely wanted to come back to try the other dishes.

Empanadas Fritas
Deep-Fried (or baked) stuffed with Cheese/Beef/Chicken/Seafood
This was a pretty good empanada-taste, size and value
-
Cuban Steak Sandwich
I hope I got the price right-I had to do a double take. This sandwich did a great job of meeting my expectations. It was a good, cheesy steak sandwich with a good portion of steak. Similar to a philly cheese steak yet different in it’s own way. I got pretty full so I ended up wrapping the other half.

Quench that sweet tooth
I came here with my husband for brunch and stayed for dessert. I pretty much had to force my husband to try this place out because he immediately pegged it as a “girl place”. Ok so I loved the Easy Bake Oven collectible displays above-I guess I should have known this wouldn’t have been his type of place. Afriad that the portion size would be a “girl size”, I ordered the deviled eggs (3 for $1.50). My husband liked it so much he got another round! I then got the Chicken Waldorf Salad which I thought was a good lunch portion and pretty satisfied overall. My husband got a steak sandwich and hated the portion size. He’s kind of a tall guy and likes his steak sandwiches Chicago style. Since it is a bakery we had to try the sweets of course. He got a cupcake that had kind of a marshallow pie on top while I got the mud pie cupcakes. Yes, it’s another $3.00 cupcake. While he liked his cupcake, he didn’t think the $3 was worth it. I, on the other hand was in love with my mudpie cupcake and ready to propose. They heated it up so it could be extra warm and gooey. Most of the desserts looked pretty nostalgic-versions of the twinkie, snoball, fig newton, etc. I didn’t realize it was on the FoodNetwork until I saw the owner and recognized her from “Recipe for Success.” I think this place is known for the beautiful cake designs to order. Overall I liked it and would come back (especially for dessert)-not to generalize, but I think I would bring the girls this time. Unfortunately, my husband said he would not return because he thought it wasn’t worth the price.

Chicken Waldorf Salad
Creamy as one would expect-lettuce, chicken, fried apple bits. Hits the spot when craving a sweet salad.
-
Mudpie cupcake
To die for-heated up for ultra chocolatey melts in your mouth yumminess. Pretty rich so I couldn’t finish it, but still loved it.
-
Deviled eggs
You get 3 for $1.50. These make a great side dish.

Glenn's Diner
Jul 9, 2007
I love Glenn
Having just moved to Ravenswood from East Lakeview, I was afraid that there wouldn’t be the same restaurant choices. My first attempt at a breakfast place became the Golden Nugget. While not bad, I really missed some of the independent diners that Lakeview offered. After just googling restaurants around me, I found that Glenn’s Diner had numerous perfect reviews. My husband and I tried it on a Friday night and was pleasantly surprised. After eating quite a bit during the 4th of July week, I tried to slow it down by not overdoing it. Although they don’t have a big variety of salads, they have plenty of everything else. I ended up getting the Sliced Baked Chicken Sandwich which sounds boring enough but was actually quite good. I had it tossed on the flat top which I found out meant toasted. Seemed to make a big difference because it reminded me of a great diner sandwich on the grill yet still had a pretty clean taste. Their ingredients and meat seemed to be very fresh. My husband got the spaghetti and meatballs and didn’t expect much (since it was a diner serving pasta) but actually thought they did a good job. He was ok with the sauce but thought the meatballs were fantastic. They were seasoned pretty well and was a mix of beef & pork. The rest of the menu was huge and I can’t wait to come back to try their breakfast items! The prices are equally fantastic! The home page titles it, “Best Food In the World” and I gotta say, they ain’t lying.

Sliced Baked Chicken Sandwich
Chicken sandwiches are usually pretty average but Glenn’s does a great job of making a boring item craveable. Pretty hunky size and juicy.

Buona Terra
Jul 9, 2007
$19.99 Thursday prix fixe menu
I always love it when restaurants give you specials and this one does a great job. On Thursdays you can choose an appetizer, entree & dessert for $19.99. All items are done pretty well too. I went with about 9 people and for the most part a majority of us really liked our meals (with the exception of a negative reaction to the strip steak)-it is an italian restaurant though, you know? I compare it to Sappori Trattoria’s prix fixe that includes a bottle of wine at $59 for two people in the food quality and great deal. However the menus are very different. I tend to like cream sauces and a wider range which Sapori Trattoria has, while Buona Terra seems to lack. Also, my husband is more of a meat lover and noticed that a lot of their pasta items do not seem to cater to the carniverous crowd. But all in all, it’s a great deal with excellent food. Definitely try their prix fixe menu on thursdays when in Logan Square and you will come out with a pretty full and happy belly.

Bruschetta Toscana
Pretty good. Tastes pretty typical of bruschetta but all around, not bad.
-
Prosciutto e Mozzarella alla Ferri
This was surprisingly awesome. I’m used to prosciutto with melons so it was nice to try it with mozarella. Pretty filling.
-
Vitello alla Monte Catini
I don’t normally eat veal, but like I said, there weren’t a bunch of meat choices. My husband got the Vitello alla Cerafino, but mine was much better. The texture was just right and worked great with the mozzarella. Wonderful dish.
-
Chocolate gelato
I was so full by dinner that I got a gelato instead of their other tasty choices. The gelato was pretty good but average. Not as creamy as some I’ve tasted but still hit the spot. I think when I come back, I’ll try one of their more intricate desserts.

Tank Sushi
May 25, 2007
Nice atmosphere, ok sushi
The place looks pretty hip, and the different kinds of maki were interesting, but I wasn’t too impressed. They were good, but for the price I was expecting a bit more. It might have been an off day but I thought the sushi was just better than average. However it seems that on sat & sun before 6, they have 1/2 price select makis which would probably be worth giving the place another shot. Loved the dessert though!
-
3 different Makis
$8 Spicy tuna-Pretty good, tasted fresh
$16 Orange crush-Out of the three this was probably my favorite-i liked the combination of the many flavors (rock crab meat, asparagus, avocado, masago mayo, spicy sauce, sesame seeds wrapped outside with salmon, topped with wasabi tobiko and ikura)
$13 Kani-This is the roll I picked but I think it was probably my least favorite. (Spicy Crabmeat and sesame seeds topped with cooked ebi, black tobiko and wasabi mayo)
$7 creme brulee sampler- I couldn’t find the description on the website but this was my favorite part of the meal. I love creme brulee and they combined four unique flavors separated in the dish-sesame, green tea, coconut and ginger. I forgot which one was my favorite but overall I really liked the dessert.

Swirlz Cupcakes

Classy cupcakes
Ok these cupcakes seem pretty pricey ($3.00 for one, $34 for a dozen) but if you did a good deed for the day and want to get rewarded, this definitely hits the spot. These cupcakes are bigger than normal and definitely tastier. I got the glutten-free grasshopper mint thinking it may not taste very good because of the “glutten free” part but it was surprisingly very tasty. I decided to buy a dozen for work and they were all very grateful. The texture was pretty moist but the original flavors really hit the spot. My faves are the chocolate peanut butter, lemon zest and the chocolate passion. They are also very pretty to look at.
-
Gluten-Free Grasshopper Mint Cupake
Yummy! Who knew glutten-free could taste so normal? I love the light frosting. I am person who does not like really thick frosting and theirs seem to be very fluffy. Can’t wait to try to the other flavors!

Sapori Trattoria

Sapori fan
Very cute interior in this Lakeview Italian restaurant. I must say I was very pleased with the service and of course, the food. I used one of those $59 coupons that you may receive in the mail (actually I asked the waiter about it) and got an order of bruschetta, house salad to share, 2 pasta dishes, a dessert and a bottle of wine! What a great deal for such awesome food.

Cappellacci all'Aragosta
