Way Better than the Competition

When I first started eating sush. I would always go to Sake Cafe. Then I started to realize a lot of their stuff tasted the same. Don’t get me wrong it is pretty good, but I felt like I wanted to branch out. Someone suggested this place to me, and I tried. Boy am I glad that I did! We got there around 5:30, and were sat right away (it was a Tuesday). The waiter was so friendly! He made me feel really welcome and comfortable. They start you off by giving you a nice hot towel for your hands and a type of noodle salad. It had a wonderful nutty flavor. We ordered the spring rolls for an appetizer. They were really good, and fresh tasting. Then we ordered several of the Chef’s Specials that they have posted on a board. Some of my favorites were the margarita roll and the yum yum roll. Each one had a delicious unique flavor. We got some other one’s that I can’t remember, but they were also good. They brought the food out as it was ready so the table didn’t get really crowded. I really liked this. The prices were about average for sushi, but I was really impressed. If you like Sushi you HAVE to try this place!

Pretty Good

I have nothing bad not say about this place, but I have nothing great to say about it either. The food was good without wowing me, the server was nice, but not very attentive, and the prices were about average. They do have a pretty good variety, and a nice small place atmosphere. It is worth trying, but I wouldn’t expect to be amazed. Pretty good place for a a late lunch/early dinner. I will say though that it is very laid back. So if that is what you are looking for you will probably love this place.

This was a pretty good dish. It was grilled shrimp and portabello mushroom in a cheesy pesto sauce sauce.

The Best Burger I've Ever Built

That’s right, built! For those of you Who have never been to Phil’s Grill. It is a burger restaurant in Metairie that is pretty well known for having won Best Burger in the Big Easy from Where Y’at Magazine in 2008. We have been there a few times and we absolutely love it. They have a build you own burger system with so many options you can pretty much you would want on a burger including but not limited to Arugula-Pesto Peanut sauce, Pineapple Ketchup, and Cinnamon-sugar bacon (yummy). They make your burger completely customizable by allowing you to choose your meat (turkey, Angus, veggie, etc), your bun type, sauces, topping, premium toppings, and cheese. You will probably have leftovers, because these burgers are huge, and are served with a side. If that wasn’t enough to make you want to try Phil’s Grill they also have delicious appetizers (Buffalo Bites, Fried Pickles, Potato Skins). Our Favorite are the Buffalo Bites. There usually isn’t a terribly long wait, and the wait staff is very friendly in our experience. I almost forgot to mention they also have Signature burgers and a Burger of the Month if you aren’t feeling very creative. Not to mention you can’t beat the prices with most burger being under 10 dollars, and coming with a side. If you are going to get it though I do recommend eating there and not picking it up, because it gets kind of soggy in the To-go box.

100% Black Angus burger stuffed with cheddar
cheese, battered and fried With mayo, lettuce, and
tomato topped with a fried egg!

This is one of this signature burgers that my husband gets pretty often. If you aren’t worried about being bad with calories then this is definitely something you would want to try. It is so yummy (even though I can only steal a few bites of it from my husband)! We usually get it with sweet potato fries as a side that you can get sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar if you like it.

One of my Favorite places

Where do I begin? I have been eating at Chevy’s for years, and I have seldom had a bad experience there. I guess I will start by saying if you are looking for traditional Mexican food. This is not the place for you, but if you want something different with a Mexican theme…go for it! The food here is so good. I don’t think I have tried one thing on their menu that I have actually disliked. I am looking over their appetizer menu as I type this and having tried all of them I can tell you that anything you decide to go with is going to be delicious. That is why I usually get the sampler. I can never decide what to get, because it is all so good. My favorites are the spicy wings (they have like a sweet and spicy hickory sauce on them) and the crispy flautas (spicy chicken, peppers, cheese and corn wrapped in a thin tortilla and served with a pepper-jelly dipping sauce) . Another thing I get often is the tostada salad (you can get it with beef or chicken) it is a layered salad with a tostada shell at the bottom beans, lettuce, meat, cheese, and guacamole which is great with their homemade salsa vinaigrette. The service is usually pretty good, and there normally isn’t a long wait if you have to wait at all. Another thing I like is their flavored margaritas! They have pear, apple and strawberry just to name a few. If you haven’t been to Chevy’s yet I highly recommend it.

Superior Service, Superior Food

I wish I loved a little closer to New Orleans, because if I did, this would definitely be one of my regular spots to eat. We went on a Saturday night. We had to wait for about 45, but we expected that so no biggie. We ate out on the patio which was nice. The waiter was very knowledgeable and quick. He was attentive, but not smothering. The chips and salsa there are wonderful. We didn’t order an appetizer, but we did get chicken tortilla soup with our meal. The soup was different than most chicken tortilla soups I have had in the past. It had a lot of veggies, and had more of a vegetable soup feel to it. I was very tasty. I got the superior platter, which came with two kind of enchilada, a beef taco, beans and rice. The “superior enchilada” was an enchilada with steak in it. It was my favorite. The meat had so much flavor! My husband got an enchilada plate and he was extremely pleased as well. We also ordered a dessert. We got the Sopapillas. I wasn’t as pleased with them. It seemed like they took something simple and yummy, and tried to do too much with it. Everyone’s food came out at the same time. No one had to send anything back. Our drinks were kept up with. It was overall a very good experience. This was my second time going there. The first was just as good. It is a little pricey for Mexican, but the food is a step up from most places so it balances out.

This came with two different enchiladas (a chicken and a steak), and a beef taco. The steak enchilada had so much flavor. I was really impressed with it. The chicken enchilada and the beef taco were good as well.

We got this for dessert. They are normally kind of like beignets (fried dough sprinkled with sugar) only they are normally thinner and drizzled with honey. These were thick and had chocolate syrup and whipped cream gobbed onto them. I wasn’t impressed…sometimes less is more.

A Pleasant Surprise

I have lived in Kenner pretty much my whole life and up until recently I had a generally bad impression of Stingrays. I had been there before and wasn’t impressed. However, I went there recently with some friends, and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. I scanned over the menu ahead of time, and knew what I wanted to try when I got there. I ordered two appetizers for my friends and I to share, and an entree to split with my husband. The appetizers we got were the fried artichoke and sweet potato hush puppies. Both were very good. the hush puppies were different, but in a good way. The entree we ordered was the Captain Sal’s Seafood Platter. It was about 14.95 and was literally a pile of food. me and my husband split it and we both were full and ate it for lunch and dinner the next day. We actually had to throw some away, because it was so much food and we just couldn’t eat it in time. It was good too. Our friend’s also got mass proportions of food, and were quit pleased with the quality. It is hard to mess up fried seafood. The waitress was nice enough and for the food quantity you get the prices were beyond reasonable. I recommend this place if you are REALLY hungry. The only real complaint I have was that they had some really really drunk people sitting in a booth not to far from us, and it was pretty distracting.

Fried oysters, shrimp, catfish, and a stuffed crab. It came with one side. We chose the Cajun potatoes which are basically spicy fried red potatoes. It was a ton of food.

where have you been all my life?

I have lived in this area my whole life and never knew this place existed until about a week ago. We were invited for a business dinner with my husband’s boss and what a treat it was. We got the Appetizer sampler which came with hummus, baba ghanoush, And some sort of spinach pie. All of it was very, very good. It is a really small place and apparently not well known so It isn’t very crowded. For my Entree I got the moussaka which reminded me kind of Shepard’s pie. It is a casserole that has potato, eggplant, ground beef and cheese. It was a big serving so my husband enjoyed most of it the next day for lunch. The prices are very reasonable as well. For about 15 dollars you get a drink, a salad, pita bread and your entree. The waitress we got was kind of eh…but she tried at least. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves or would love to try some great Greek food.

Best local place for bubble tea

Even though my sister and her boyfriend raved about this place for months I had not tried it until recently. The food was very good. I had the pha soup and a bubble tea. The bubble tea was delicious. There are alot of places who are now adding the bubble tea to their menu, but do not be swayed. Frosty’s is the best. Also, there spring rolls are delicious. They are definately the way to go if you want something refreshing. The service there is very laid back though so don’t go and expect the waiter to recite the menu to you or even come to your table. Order at the counter have a seat and enjoy!

Not Worth it

This is a new restaurant in my area and me and my husband decided to give it a try. We were very disappointed. We went for lunch. All of the entrees…even lunch ones were over 10 dollars…and that isn’t the problem. They were not worth the 10-15 bucks. We got shrimp remoulade app which was mediocre at best. I got a burger w, grilled onion and mushrooms. I am not exaggerating when I say it tasted like nothing. The most flavorful thing on it was the bun. My husband got what he though was going to be pasta with a creamy wine sauce. The sauce was so thin and runny it would not even stick to the pasta. They brought hush puppies to our table before the meal as lagniape, and they were really good, but cold. The only good thing was the service. They need to get a new chef. They serve similar New Orleans cuisine to Coplands, which is right next door, only it taste much worse. We won’t be going back or encouraging anyone else to.
