great eats for those who love comfort food. best huevos anywhere from a guy who’s sampled around the world. next closest was a dish from cazuela’s on isla mujers near cancun. i order eggs over easy, hold the black beans and bring the red meat sauce (other options include a vegetarian, etc.). you’re not here for the service, although it’s often amusing in a saturday night live skit sort of way. the food is excellent and worth the wait.

quite possibly the best bbq in northern ca. 18-hour smoked brisket served memphis-style with the sauce on the side. excellent sauces including bbq, mustard and even north carolina. on weds they serve their own, house made pastrami. and on the wekends, killer brunch. if you’re wanting to eat beyond the combo plates, consider chili made fromthe 18-hour smoked brisket. best of all, it’s right across the street from the world-famous tap house, The Toronado—www.toronado.com—bring your food from minnie’s over to the bar and enjoy a malty german lager with the links, a smoked-porter with the brisket or an oatmeal stout with the chili. nirvanahhh.

top-shelf tequila selection may be the draw, but the authentic jalisco-style dishes keep you coming back. several reviewers talk about the carnitas, and they do rock, but to get the true guadalajaran flava from the state and land of tequila, try “carne en su jugos”—meat in its juices. side dish of refried beans with chorizo that comes with the meal is also satisfying. no wonder the dodgers ball team swings by to close this joint after sweeping the giants (ouch).
