Was introduced to Kubota today by a friend. We originally planned to go to Gombei – its sister casual restaurant around the corner.
We were greeted by a petite, welcoming woman and asked to sit at sushi bar since tables were full for a Friday lunch crowd.
We both selected from the specials menu. My friend ordered the udon special served w/side of salad and spicy tuna. While I ordered a bento box of tuna sashimi, chicken, tempura, and grilled fish combination with miso. Don’t be fooled from the menu that it was your standard, typical Americanized Japanese meal. It was clear the ingredients were quality, unique & carefully selected. Portions were great without overfilling, definitely your money’s worth. We were served the traditional hot tea & spent <$35.
I want to try this place for dinner.

What a pleasant surprise! I’ve walked by this place hundreds of times and was finally introduced to this restaurant. Based on the name of the restaurant and the bamboo shade covered windows thought this restaurant was only about tofu and didn’t have personality. I was proven wrong when I walked through the doors to discover a vibrant, bustling restaurant filled with locals (all speaking Korean!) and a menu for omnivores. Place is bright and clean. Service is fast. Had mainly veggie selections. Going to come back w/other friends & family to dive into the meatier side of the menu!

A couple of my Spaniard friends (ex-pats)...
A couple of my Spaniard friends (ex-pats) advised me that they offer tapas just like at home. The place is cozy and family owned. There wasn’t a dish that I wouldn’t order again and appreciated the flavors was all about the ingredients. Saltiness didn’t get in the way. Just wished had more friends with me so could order more from the menu and get my fill of the various options. Had an empanada, paella, cheese/salad plate, dessert, & sangria! The staff was very friendly and had meaninful conversations w/out forgetting the rest of the patrons…plus gave us a complimentary apertif. They don’t take reservations, but the long wait is worth it. If you’re not hungry at the beginning, you will be after your wait. Parking is very difficult. If I lived in SF, I’d probably make this one of my regular hangouts.

If you’ve been avoiding red meat for a while, but suddenly craving a really good steak…Alexander’s the place! They offer a wide variety of cuts, aged, bone-in (who would guess filet mignon can be served w/a bone!). Of course the king of all steaks—kobe…uncommon to most steak houses, they actually serve kobe in several cuts and styles (you just need the benjamins!). Staff are very patient, friendly and informative. The plating is very pretty and love the signature complimentary cotton candy at the end. There are some very appealing non-steak options for love ones that you drag along who don’t eat steak. Definitely save your pennies for this place and make it a special treat…it’s worth it.

Was impressed to discover a decent Vietnamese restaurant in the middle of Texas. Facility is perfect for banquets. I especially enjoyed ther Hot and Sour Seafood hot pot and lotus blossom salad. Consistent with Texas reputation for not doing anything understated, the ingredients were fresh and large (talk about jumbo shrimps). For a lunch party of 7 adults and 2 kids, $100 (including tax & tip) was a deal. Service staff was fast and responsive.

If you’re on the Atkins diet and don’t have any issues with high blood pressure or cholesterol…you’ll enjoy Cleo’s. Cleo’s is a good economical introduction to Brazilian churrascaria. Their buffet offers a selection of traditional Brazilian food. However, their caipirinhas and homemade desserts were the highlights for me. A good place to be loud, laughing, and casual with good company.

One of my favorite landlock seafood restaurants. I really enjoy their clam chowder. Depending on my mood have found the range of offerings from appetizers to main course (grilled to fried) fresh and tasty. Their spritzers and flavored lemonades are especially good during the summer. Desserts are fine.
